I think the SCOTUS didn't want to get in the middle of the process. The process is to sentence and close the trial so that it can be appealed. When it's appealed to the Federal district court it will be overturned (or even if it has to do to the State or Federal SCOTUS). But until then they can say "convicted felon". However... after all this, the DOJ must launch an investigation into Bragg and Merchan and perhaps bring Federal criminal charges. So the "damage" to Trump has to also be proven (the sentencing) and subsequent "Felony" statements (at least that's my thinking on this not being a law expert or anything).

I disagree with the Supreme Court's reasoning. They claim that the correct course of justice was for Trump to make his arguments of immunity on appeal, but the very core aspect of immunity is you don't need to appeal you cannot be forced to answer to the court in any way. It's putting the chicken before the egg and makes the idea of immunity pointless since you will be forced to fight it in appeal after trial and sentencing for things you were _immune_ for. The ramifications of this applies to not only the President but now to all aspects of immunity from diplomatic to governmental. The US Supreme Court just said foreign diplomats need to fight for the immunity after the fact on appeal. Give it 10 years, the law will abuse this discretion as it always does with any discretion given. Government officials will be wiretapped, foreign diplomats will have their sensitive records seized and probed, and it calls into question the immunity of _any_ executive position, from governor, judge, and military commanders. Now they can be searched, imprisoned, had freedoms restricted, and punished all before the immunity question is settled and will have to fight for it on appeal after having the very acts immunity prevents dealt upon them.
