My dad still has his red strip from when he was a Cub Scout in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. My grandfather was stationed there before the revolution.

Wow, that’s awesome! That story needs to be told to Scouts. The family connection makes it unique in history. Maybe contacting the Scout Museum to see if they have even more input about it. YIS⚜

When I was a Scout, we still used the red/white city & state strips. I wore the ones my Dad wore on his uniform. My grandson has them on his patch vest now.

For today's JSP's we must source via an approved vendor. That vendor is given parameters (size, shape, logos) by BSA supply. The vendor guides the council on these parameters during design and sew-out.

Thank you for the update. I thought that it had been turned over to approved vendors but could not find data to confirm. Thanks YIS⚜

Cool! I have quite the CSP collection, but don't collect many RWS or "community" strips. I actually found some scout items at a Goodwill by the pound. A Florida Sea Base cap, an Aussie style scout hat with "staff" on it and a Calapooia Dist. Klondike patch.
@ScouterStan2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a wonderful collection you have. Now it's a point of sharing it somehow with other scouts. Coming up with a display or a way you can demonstrate the uniqueness of each patch to the scouts. There are many opportunities to show your collection to scouts and help spread goodwill to them. YIS⚜

@@ScouterStan I'm "retired" from scouting, but when I know someone is in scouts I give extra patches to their parents. to give to the kids.

Hey Scouter Stan. Have you ever heard of Pipestone that is only awarded in Buckeye Council? Its only offered at 7 Ranges and thats the only place in the world you can earn it.
@ScouterStan Жыл бұрын
I have never heard of this award. I know that Tipisa (my OA lodge) has a lighted pipestone “peace pipe” on its logo and flap. From what I recall Pipestone is also a National Park in Minnesota near the town of Pipestone. I don't know if they're related to the award. YIS⚜

@ScouterStan2 жыл бұрын
A counselor at Summer Camp? Camp Staff is the best summer job you will ever have. Make sure you're qualified the be a merit badge counselor and know the subject. Most of the camp staff is supportive like lifeguards, kitchen staff, assistants, rangers, etc. Whatever you do, have fun! YIS⚜

You are not too old to go for Eagle Scout. (1) Make sure all of your 90-day merit badges are started or completed as soon as possible. (2) The hardest part of an eagle project is finding someone who wants it and who qualifies. (3) Ask some adults in your troop if they would be your Eagle Scout Mentor. Remember it is YOUR Eagle Scout and you must earn it. It won't be difficult if you set up a plan and start working on it right now. YIS⚜
