Not just work culture, but social culture as well. It's considered standard to bully anyone who dares to show any hint of individuality. If you have serious problems, even out of your control, everybody else acts like it's YOUR fault and you're pressured to hide it out of shame. And then like you mentioned, people are expected to give their lives for their job, which is organized in a very dictatorial, top-down hierarchy that research has shown again and again to not only be extremely harmful to employees, but ineffective and unproductive.

The SCP # is very close to a Japanese numerical pun: 5963 - gokurosan - thanks for your hard work. I wonder if 5263 is a similar pun, a coincidence, or 5963 was just already taken. The Japanese phrase for “it cannot be helped” is “shikata ga inai” and googling that leads to some interesting cultural articles.

I hate how true this is, even at the "best" large corporations to work for. Anyone who asks for change in the workplace is asking someone else to do more work, and people _hate_ being given more work to do. So if you think you have an idea on how to make your company better or more productive, it's better to just keep it to yourself. Ignore all verbal encouragement given by your superiors to "speak up" if you have advice that you think could better the company. It's a trap to lure out "loose nails." That's a Japanese proverb that reflects Japan's very societal structure/culture: you have an assigned role in society, and you stick to it no matter what. Stand out in any way and you run the risk of being ostracised and shunned. And this SCP reflects that: these people have their jobs and the corporate culture, and that's it. Nothing else matters. Not family, not pets, nothing. Another depressing fact about Japanese culture is that it has one of the highest rates of suicide among it's population.
