I remember a story where the Eye Pods helped to detain 689 by looking at it, so it seems that the eyes that look at it do not exactly need to be human. So an idea would be to have a bunch of flies in a space with 689. Flies have unblinking eyes that seem to have a much wider range of vision than humans.

So the blood could nourish the flies, the flies can lay eggs on the fecal matter, and the maggots would then eat the fecal matter.

wouldn't it make sense to keep the d class' that have seen it alive instead of terminating them instantly?? if it has a list, having someone contained in a room that you know is on that list is a sure fire way to get the statue back in the event that it gets away; you know it will for sure at some point land back on that d class, at which point bam it's back in the facility and can be observed and contained. as opposed to killing them immediately, cool, now if it disappears you now have zero clue where it is

@@Cakemine7 Plus, that randomness isn't fully random, it aims for places with crowds anyway. It's probably just an extension of the "kill everyone who's seen it if it disappears" procedure as in the scp page it's stated that if those who have seen it are all dead then it returns to its previous spot with no problem, implying that all prior viewers had been killed before activation at least once, proving the strategy effective. Because of this property the procedure are probably set up to kill the d-class to *verify* containment breaches. In essence, not killing them is just playing dice with the statue to see if it stays in the cell on its own (which it won't if somebody outside the facility is on the kill list) and just playing the waiting game with the d-class if it doesn't as you scramble like crazy to verify a breach, which is stupid. On the other hand, killing them will tell you within a few seconds if it actually breached containment or if it was just targeting one of the d-class viewers because he looked away when he wasn't supposed to, as it will remain in the cell in the latter case guaranteed with no delay in verification, thus saving resources on a totally unnecessary recovery attempt.

I had the same thought. You’d have a potential beacon in the room for the object to teleport to. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to terminate them immediately. Why not wait until it teleports to terminate them? Or if it were to teleport somewhere else, then house the D class as another possible return point

You miss the point. The point is we don't know who it was exposed to. We can't. it could even transfer through pictures or depictions, or even descriptions. It's very likely the O5 are infected. It's one of the rare SCPs so dangerous and unpredictable they outright can't test it.

To understand the process this statue does: it goes into another plane of existence, it entraps the souls then appears on the chest. Is a prison pandora box, best way to deal with it is to be sended into a one way pocket dimension along with a box that can block the dimension-jumping effects. It might grow more and more souls entraped there to work as a vessel of tribute to that god of the underworld. It is an item to either be isolated or to be kept as a weapon against another civilization that might want to harm ours. This statue has been passed from a previous civilization to ours. Is somehow a dangerous pandora box weapon that in the end it would be best to be sealed in a red reality dimension I guess, one that can be closed and never entered again by anyone or anything. It is important to know if the picture of this statue can have an effect to come back into our dimension or if the statue has a memory or just a premade set of instructions embeded on it.

I mean, it seems obvious that it wouldn't be able to kill 682. If that creature can reconstitute itself from being reduced to atoms, I'm pretty sure it could regenerate from mere organ failure. And the risk that it takes on some of the properties of 689 makes this experiment a no-go in my mind. It's possible that the apparent causes of death 689 has on its victims are mere ancillary effects of its insta-kill power, and that maybe it takes away the fundamental quality of life from its targets, but it certainly doesn't seem worth the risk.

@@tauceti8060 terminating him doesnt work when trying to harm him. If I wouod terminate him, I'd use 826 and simulate a lifeless world as it was in SCP-2935. I think 682 only dies, when his ultimate life goal is achieved and through simulating it, he should most likely die as soon as he realieses, that everything is dead or as soon as the simulated reality experiences the heat death of the universe. Of course the story must be written in a way, that time passes more quickly and 826 must be placed within 682s containment cell, without him noticing it. This is very risky and because 826 has been used before, 682 might notice the fake, but given his previous termination attempts and behaviour it isnt very likely. Also, he has to find 826 in order to achieve this and the story may include hiding 826 on one of Jupiters moons or something like that.

I feel that if 682 was killed he would simply come back from peoples knowledge of him and be strengthened by the preception that he is invincible and eternal... If that were to occur it would be a nightmare, equivalent to the Haunter in the dark. Those with knowledge of it spawning new instances. But at the same time the thought that it had died would be its weakness, new instances being unstable, so destruction would be wide spread but quick... at least until it truly reforms. Which would ironically require it back in containment, its containment chamber being where it had the most presence and history.
