I get the sense that our POV character managed to get a message back in time, successful in sending back what he had and unable or unwilling to record more. Seeing as how the year AJAX breaks containment will come and go in the future, I think the implication is that the foundation will find a way out of this situation armed with this foresight. Foresight bought with a pair of ears and eyes.

Despite the dread inherent to the SCP, in some ways, I think its a little hopeful because it implies - to me at least - that someone (probably not Troy from the sounds of his leaving) succeeded in at least sending the info back to warn the Foundation, since none of those dates have occurred yet.

@@BoxCox He said they had a close call with 239 almost ending the world, and that incident lead to the foundation realizing it needed a contingency plan. @matthewcolosi760611 ай бұрын
It sounds like the original intent was that these girls would basically be infinite baby making machines. Since he said they had wombs that could operate for 1000 years. But, then when every living human prayed for their survival, they became gods. The effect they currently have, of transforming humans into these “floaters” seems to be a defense mechanism of sorts. He said “gods need followers” which implies that they are creating these followers in an attempt to save themselves. Though they did destroy Ajax at some point, so I’m not 100% sure on that part.
@aepokkvulpex8 ай бұрын
@@BoxCoxI can help make the backstory at 16:26 clear! I did have to look up 239: She was/is a little girl with astronomically powerful reality bending abilities, which the Foundation felt threatened by. The Foundation lured / kidnapped four already existing thirteen year old orphan girls off the streets, and combined technology with magic and rituals in classic SCP fashion, with the goal of making them a contingency plan for an end of the world scenario. He mentions they have functioning wombs made to last for a thousand years. He also mentions SCP-2000, essentially a humanity mass repopulation entity. The icon of the Thaumiel class, really. The girls were buried before 2000 was discovered, it made them unnecessary, 30 years later AJAX utterly destroyed SCP-2000, and then these four girls were remembered. It is noted that the girls "weren't built to be divine." When the PSAs mentioned the girls, they meant in the sense of restarting humanity. But things went wrong. Whether through AJAX's influence, or the ambient psychic disturbance to reality that releasing all of the SCPs over the course of three years brought (9:16), or all of the above, a desperate human population collectively clutched to this PSA in a panic and instead of "praying for their survival" (9:37-10:00) for a future humanity, everyone begged to be saved now and put that belief in the idea of those girls. What I imagine was a widespread ambient reality distortion by then turned those wishes and desires into a twisted reality. It made those orphan girls gods.

To compare something of a similar height... Olympus Mons, the highest peak in our solar system, is only 21.9 km (13.6 mi/72,000 ft) Crazy as that is, here's something even more nuts... MAGOG protocol, tenant 2 says "Under no circumstances are any personnel permitted to travel to an area that will be in the path of an SCP-7450 transience within 72 hours." Pallas takes 468 days to circumnavigate the planet, meaning she travels around 53 miles a day... However, with her height, she would be visible from around 235 mi away. So, even in the best-case scenario, with her coming directly at you, 72 hours wouldn't be enough. She would be visible for about 4 days...

@raptor22652 ай бұрын
I think that you would have plenty of time to get out of the way of it, even at a walking speed, let alone using a car, boat, or airplane. Unless I've made a mistake with my math, that speed doesn't add up; with the Earth having a circumference of 40,075km, and there being 41,990,400 seconds in 486 days (486 days x 24 hours x 60 minutes x 60 seconds), they would be travelling at 0.0009545 km/s, or about 3.44 kilometers per hour. Considering that an average person walking at an average speed moves at about 5 km/h, that means that Pallas is moving at a considerably slow, leisurely pace. Honestly, it must look as though it's moving in super slow-motion - either that, or it looks like they're moonwalking, as a height of 23.5 kilometers would have a stride size between "steps" that would put it at a FAR greater speed.
@TheRyuSword6 күн бұрын

For anyone not really in the know about this, who might not have been around for the 2000 fallout drama (or who never paid attention to SCP writing matter/cared about drama) SCP-2000 was kind of a gamechanger. It's basically a reversal of many kinds of Apocalypsis, a sort of Get Out of Jail Free card for the Foundation that--to many--sort of took the wind out of the sails of a lot of the more frightening or disturbing SCPs about the world ending, because like... if everyone starts turning into a clown, or a giant country-sized bear wrecks our atmosphere, or some ancient one-eyed god comes back and kills everyone, why does it really matter if 05-2 presses a button and basically hits a console Reset on everything? So, this is a late-come entry after its effects, but the 'force easily brushing aside SCP-2000' is a pretty mainstay trope in SCPs these days as a result of that introduction; not super relevant here, but I just wanted to mention it.

I do too. Boy do I not miss those times, SCPs like this are far better. Never saw people mindlessly complaining when older SCPs were longer, and you never see people complaining about 01 proposals. We get it, you don't like large scale existential stories, you don't have to keep reminding us every single time. Clearly people like this content, or it wouldn't be made so much.
@lefturd Жыл бұрын
@@yourface2464 I guess, bet then again there are a lot of over done writing trends that a lot of people write. Not because it's clever, unique, or inherently good, but because its easy and a low hanging fruit. For example, a lot of writers fall into the meta 4th wall breaking tropes when trying to write backstory, like "it was actually all a dream" or "this is only one of many multiverses". While they can be very good, it's often only done because it's very easy to make a backstory that makes sense and also has an "epic" twist using such tropes. It turns your otherwise garbage plot into a mediocre one, at the sacrifice of creativity. Writing SCPs that don't fall under the normal classifications and/or are obvious Mary Sues have that same problem. Not saying ALL of them are bad and unimaginative, it's just that from a writer's standpoint, it often doesn't take a lot of imagination to come up with one. "OBJECT CLASS: ANNOYING. SCP-42069 IS A GIANT ORANGE WITH HUMAN EYES AND A HUMAN MOUTH. IT IS ALWAYS SAYING 'HEY, HEY APPLE' AND IF YOU HEAR IT YOUR BRAIN MELTS OUT YOUR EARS. IT'S SO LOUD THAT YOU CAN HEAR IT FROM HALFWAY ACROSS THE PLANET AND THERE'S NO WAY TO STOP IT!!!! JOURNAL ENTRY ONE; I LIVE UNDERGROUND AND IVE BEEN WAITING 12 YEARS FOR, WHATEVER THAT 'THING' IS, TO CEASE ITS CRIES. JOURNAL ENTRY 2; IM BEGINNING TO GO CRAY CRAY FROM STAYING UNDERGROUND FOR SO LONG!! JOURNAL ENTRY 3; YEAH, THATS IT. IM GOING OUTSIDE!! I HAVE TO SEE IF ITS STILL OUT THERE. There's just something undeniably charming about eigenweapons for me. The fact that an organization dedicated to the study and containment of anomalies is sometimes forced to create their own anomalous superweapons in the defense of humanity is always intriguing, especially when it's done as well as 7450.
@vintrontheexonite5745 Жыл бұрын
This one is great. It is a fantastic read and shows why the foundation is so cold and calculating. 05-1 is being kind by mentioning the human backup plan, but that causes a bigger problem. Humanity had a chance before with a horrible, unethical method but now by the foundations own actions its worse than if they did nothing.
@TheSimpleMan454 Жыл бұрын
It's entries like this one that make me miss the days the SCP Foundation was a collection of articles about anomalous objects. I didn't mind the occasional bizarre creature/cryptids, odd locations, or sketchy agencies with paranormal ties. Hell, I actually even liked some of the ancient conspiracy stuff. But then we get "This is just the apocalypse. But it's so cool! And it's so impressive and epic and dark! And- and- and-"... It just gets a groan from me every time. No fault of yours Dr. Miller, just... these articles lack any sort of mystery or charm. It's "Rocks fall and everyone dies. The end." With extra steps. Dreary and completely soulless. It would be refreshing at this point to see something like a guitar that let's anyone play one flawless performance but then a string breaks and they loose any talent for music. Or a vindictive nightstand lamp. Or the one washing machine that opens the dimension all our missing socks fall into. Something that just gets to be interesting weird, not Eldritch Abomination weird.
@F0rr0r Жыл бұрын
I generally agree in terms of preference, but the beauty of these is that there's room for all types of stories and scenarios. I'll take the low-stakes and obscure with the highest-stakes and apocalyptic; so long as it's creative and well-written, I'll eagerly consume it all. I found this one to be a pretty compelling example of the latter.
@Jogeta5 Жыл бұрын
This was less an entry and more a story, with anime inspirations (Evangelion and Madoka). A pre-SCP 2000 backup plan would have had the potential dangers of these four girls thought out and planned accordingly around it. The Foundation would not have been so reckless with a project so important. WIth AJAX being such an high-level unknown entity, causing the effects it did. We know the Foundation has emergency options available to them. The author didn't explain what happened to the far more powerful non-Foundation reality anchors and time travel and alternate universe devices. I thought it was a decent story well told by Volgun, but there's too much missing for it not to be an alternate future the Foundation avoids.

Wasn't AJAX referenced in another SCP? I remember one about a complex mechanism buried deep in the Earth that was keeping the Earth secret from some great celestial horror. But the concern was that the mechanism would only work for so long, and the Foundation was starting to see signs of failure.

It’s far from the worst-written SCP I’ve seen, and isn’t even my least-favorite Kaktus piece, but it’s just so thoroughly uninteresting and brings nothing new to the table. Ajax is LITERALLY just a boring generic world-ender; thematically the girls are just a less-developed, less-interesting version of the Children that were used to erase the Kingdom of Abaddon; and the overall “whoops Foundation fucked up” storyline is played entirely straight with no twist. With the way things are presented it’s hard to say the Foundation even did anything wrong, they just swapped one hilariously overpowered and unbeatable world-ender for another.
@smjsuperscott Жыл бұрын
@@sssspider I enjoyed the quiet descent the foundation researcher went through becoming one of the last people on earth amidst a threat with extremely consistent yet unmanageable rules. I think these need to be reclassified as 'else world' stories. I know they pretty much already are but the fact that they are an SCP bothers me a bit. This would be the last SCP, as would the last Apollyon SCP and the one before that. an SCP is something that exists, filed and stored and can be dealth with one way or another. It can be all powerful but not all encompassing. It can be all encompassing but not all powerful. Once you have both. Its end game. Thats it, no more SCPs. The world is ended. It wouldnt even get so far as to be catalogued.
