Lets assume your database sid is "orcl" . Then In unix system , you can see background process by giving following command ps -ef | grep orcl To see DB writer ps -ef | grep orcl | grep dbwr DB Writer is an example of back ground processes.

Sir, while explaining Oracle database server you call background processes as DB Writer. To my understanding of Scpt 2 Video, 'Connecting to Database Instance in Dedicated Server Mode' background processes and DB Writer are different objects ( I hope this is the correct IT terminology ). As in Scpt 2 video, you have explained how to find the number of background processes, so where can we see the types of background processes existing in the database and number of DB Writers.
