The kids today have no idea what they missed. This was back when singers could sing. Everything from hard rock to soft was still a ballard. When you went to a concert the band was actually singing the song with no help except from the PA. What you heard was his voice with every perfection as well as imperfection. Greatest era period.

God, Ann Wilson was absolutely smoking hot back then. I've been a Heart fan for a long time and watched her evolve over time. Of course, she had her struggles with her weight and all, but I look at her now and I like the way that she turned out. I mean she's still fiercely independent and intelligent with that powerful voice, but there's a wisdom and thoughtfulness there, a certain level of mature introspection. I get the sense that I could just sit and talk with her for hours and never get bored. I still find her physically attractive as well. We've all aged, right? Maybe a few more lines, a few more pounds around the middle. That's all pretty superficial though.
@musicfanhawk45232 жыл бұрын
Weight doesn't make a person any less of a human worth believing in so why even mention it? Her sister was a major drug user but that didn't make her any less of a guitar player and part of the band
@rbilleaud2 жыл бұрын
@@musicfanhawk4523 because she herself often talks about her struggles with her weight back in the 80s and how the record companies used to stigmatize her for it. I'm not being critical or judgemental, in fact, I'm defending her, and I'm certainly not talking about something she hasn't spoken about herself. I think you're one of those people who just go out looking for something that someone says so you can virtue signal. Like how dare I mention her weight. It's certainly not a taboo subject with her and it's valid in terms of how the music industry treated her.

I was there. I came from Phoenix with three friends. Two women and another guy. As we drove over there one of the women, Jeannie, dropped some acid without telling us. She got pretty wacked out. When we got out of the car, she ran off into the crowd. We did not see her for the rest of the concert. When we got there it was about 3 am. I-10 was a parking lot. The entire freeway was turned into tailgate parties with everyone out of their cars and passing joints and such. The CA Highway Patrol contacted the organizers and ordered them to get down there and open the gates and stand back. They didn't even take tickets. They just wanted to clear the interstate. They sold something like 267,000 tickets, but the sheriff's estimate from the air was 500,000. The movie says 250,000, but I think that was before they had the sheriff's estimate. I saw people walking around yelling "Ludes for sale!" Or "Acid for sale!" you could find about anything you wanted. I just smoked weed. When it was over we still had not found Jeannie. No cells back then. So I drove to the main entrance. I drove the car onto the concrete apron in the entrance way and parked it so people would have to go around it to exit. I was hoping Jeannie would see us. Then we went to sleep while waiting. No luck. It was a shot in the dark anyway. So we went back to Phoenix, hoping Jeannie was ok. Once back I got a call from Jeannie. She was in a truck stop in Indio, CA. A trucker got her that far. So we knew she was OK, but stranded. So I got in my car and drove about 250 miles to get her. It was a great time. It's hard to believe it was 41 years ago now.

This was my first “real” concert too! We drove up from the Navy base the night before. I remember walking several hours trying to get a better spot, finally had to stop when people were too crowded. We ended up behind 2nd set of speaker towers on left. What amazes me is not that it took 2&1/2 hours to use the portipotty but that somehow I managed to find my way back! Lol

Thank you for posting a great depiction of an unforgettable twenty-four hours. The night preceding the show, eleven of us went to the speedway in my '69 El Camino. After being nearly crushed to death against the barricades, we were all separated during the stampede when they finally opened the gates. Being barely five feet tall at the time, I managed to hold on to our ice chest to give me a little extra breathing space in the mass of people. After about half an hour of being swept along with the crowd the dust began to settle and I searched for my companions. The only one I found was, thankfully, the one with the weed, who said he'd never lost sight of the top of my leather cowboy hat bobbing in the sea of humanity.....'cause I had the beer! We discovered a huge roll of unused chain link fencing laying on its side, right out in the middle of the crowd of all places, and climbed on top and observed the melee. As daylight began to shine, we realized directly behind us was large platform housing the the sound mix crew. Seeing the hundred or so thousand folks between us and any shot of actually seeing the stage from a distance even close to a normal venue's range, and hearing the sound checks being conducted from six feet behind, we decided to call the chain link our rockin' roll for the day. During Heart, one of the girls who had come with us spotted us and we made room on the roll. As luck would have it, she had a pair of binoculars and a huge bag of pistachios. We proceeded to enjoy the best festival concert (some Woodstock goers may disagree) ever! When we returned to my El Camino after the event (which was no easy task, I had no idea the were so many light blue El Caminos on earth) two of our party were already passed out in the back. We waited until the lot was nearly empty, with two more friends able to straggle out. There was most likely some hallucinogenics involved, so we gave up hope on the other four. With us all living just up the road in Norco, somehow, they don't remember how they made it home before us......on a day we will never forget.

Came out in '86. 28 minutes of full bore, gut wrenching thrash metal. Beginscwith Angel of Death. Ends with Raining Blood. It doesn't get any better than this. Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King, Dave Lombardo. Arguably the greatest thrash album ever made.

My gosh, Stevie Nicks with a smile on her face. Nice work by Bob Welch and band. Great set by Heart. You could always count on this band for solid rock. Ann Wilson...what can you say? Perhaps the greatest of all female rock vocalists and still sounding excellent. Not tough to look at, either. Then and now. Ted Nugent and "Just What The Doctor Ordered". Here Terrible Ted looks like the epitome of the badass rock guitarist.
