Lol yes to us you're so softly spoken! That was really nice of that Mum to come and listen instead of complaining. My son is ASD, ADHD and very sensitive to loud noises. Ironically he is the loudest person I know and rarely stops talking 😂. I had a hard time curling my jumbo paper clips with my fibro hands! Great compromise with the half birthday 🎂! Thank you for the brilliant tips, we appreciate everything! Tfs 💖

Happy Half birthday! I think it’s great that you and your sister still find time to celebrate with each other!🎈 PS Thanks for mentioning that Tung Oil. I’ll be researching it some more, as I’ve been looking for something to put on my mom’s old sewing machine cabinet. The wood is extremely dry and I’m not sure what to put onto it. We were thinking lemon oil.
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elaine! About 5 years ago I got an incredible old wooden school desk from a Goodwill for $5. It was so cheap because it was so horrid. After stripping it and removing several layers of paint and gauges, I refinished it with stain and I didn't want to use a poly on top. The tung oil works beautifully. I do reapply (super quick process) once a year or so to keep the wood from drying out, but I believe you will be pleased with the results on your old sewing machine (super cool treasure to have!)

Another video full of ideas. I wil try and track down some Seth Apter beeswax. Last te I looked I could only get a jumbo sized pot in the UK which was a bit too expensive to try out 😂. It's lovely to hear about your teaching experiences. The children you have taught over the years are lucky to have had you, it is easy to see what a good and caring teacher you are.
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
I was originally gifted a bit, I fell in love with the SA beeswax so I bought a bag. It is getting lower than I like so I bought the jumbo size. It is coming from Canada so it will be a bit before it arrives. It's certainly not for everyone, but I absolutely love it and the thought of not having any made me nervous and caused me to purchase the really big bag.

I would love to see how you save and sort your scraps. Do you sort at the end if each day? At the end if a project? And do you sort by size? Shape? Color? I've just found you and am thoroughly enjoying the Scrap Buster Idea Book, thank you for showing us how to do it in detail.
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you and welcome! I do have a video that shows how I sort and store my scraps, but do to the volume of paper the squirrel videos and this project have generated I've changed it up a bit, just for this set of journals. I bought some of the dollar store plastic desk organizer bins and have the paper sorted like this: long strips 1/4" or more (for the scrap cards), tiny bits (for clusters), rectangular or square small bits (for button spots), larger cardstock pieces (for journaling cards, books, notepads, pockets, tucks, etc), ledger and other paper, big cardstock pieces (mostly 6" x 6" cut from 12" x 12" pads and the 4" x 12" strips), off cut strips of coffee dyed typing copy paper (for backing journaling cards, making notebooks and notepads and scrap pads), lightweight paper (vellum and tracing paper and anything super thin), book page/scraps. After digging through my normal paper project bins WAY too often to find the right bits, I switched to this system for this series. Once it's done, and the amount of scraps generated diminishes a bit, I'll go back to my usual system of tossing all scraps into one plastic tray, then sorting it into it's regular home at the end of the project.

Lovely journal, but could you explain the "embossing" for the chip board flower? Something about wet embossing and beeswax?? Not sure what you mean. Thank you. 😊
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
Sure! I use a clear ink embossing stamp pad, tap the colored/painted flowers onto the embossing ink and then sprinkle it with Seth Apter Vintage Beeswax embossing powder. It creates that lovely, distressed finish.

Great pages! The Seth Apter embossing powder turned the die cut into a “wow” flower. I have been rewatching many of your videos searching for the one about the press you made to flatten your paper. No luck so far! Can you point me in the right direction, or give a brief review of how you made it.
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
Sheesh, I'm not sure which video the press is in. It's in the midst of the flips, flaps and folds series, but not sure what the title is because I think I shared it while answering viewer questions. I'll pull out the pieces and show how I made it in today's video. Thank you for the kind comments :)

I started celebrating my half birthday when I was in school… my birthday is in the summer so I never got to bring treats to school so my mom came up with that plan. Then several family members ended up with birthdays on other family members half birthdays so I was even more aware of them. Then, I was scheduling a C section for my last baby, close to my half birthday. But the best they could do was the day after 😭 Then after she was born, the dr had the nerve to say, “we should have had you come in last night, we were just hanging around waiting for someone else to have their baby” 😐😂 Our babysitter had even come the night before because we had to be up so early, so I would have been there in 15 minutes 🤣 Not meant to be 🤪😂

Hi Nancy! I'm all kinds of high tech with this one.... I picked the leaves up off the ground last fall, laid them on my die cut counter for a few weeks, then tucked them into my dried leaf bag. Definitely not the most efficient method, but it's worked.

Hi Cori, was the vellum a full page for the mail slot? And is it glued on the top edge?
@CoriDahmen3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rhonda! Yes, I cut the vellum to the size of the page (a digital printed vellum would work great for this), made the slot about 3/4" of an inch below the top and then made a reinforcement scrap and sewed that on top. I sewed around the entire page (because it helps anchor the page and hide the glue) then I glued it on all four sides to the back "host" page. The only opening is the mail slot.
