Scrap Metal run with my Wife! How to make money with scrap metal!

Today I did a scrap metal run with my wife Lynda, Had a blast and made over 160$ Canadian doing it!
This shows how easy it is to make extra money on your day off or even full time when recycling Metal.
I started scraping metal when I got laid-off a year ago after working at the same place 12 years. I did what was needed to make extra Money and take care of my kids when my wife is working.
And if others are in the same boat has me, Its not too late to make extra money, Buy a trailer, Use your Van, Even your car if you have too, Make that extra Income.
Scrap metal is the way to go!

I have a tip for you. I lived in Hawaii and discovered that using a stationary tool was much better than trying to shuck a coconut with a hand tool and believe me coconut skins that cover the actual coconut are harder to strip than a radiator . So... fix a prying tool to the fence or trailer hitch or in concrete and use both hands to hold the object and bodyweight to pry it free . The difference is day and night.

We are located 10 minutes away from Ottawa Ontario. I live on the Quebec side in the Outaouais region. I do scrap in Ontario also, its not very far, but price wise we get the same on both sides so in the end it only depends where I do my run that day.

I'll add my 2 cents here. Definately worth doing. I cut grass for a living so I'm always out there anyway. But what I see are scrappers appearing a disappearing. Sometimes metal is on the curb for like 5 minutes before someone gets it. Other times the bar-b-ques all find the garbage truck. Hard to decide whether to try to do this or not because any given day there can be like 10 people scrapping or zero. Currently, I just grab big piles of aluminum if I see them while I'm cutting grass.

+ChanbleX Gaming Best bet is do the magnet test. If it doesn't stick to the metal is worth more. Copper ( Orange) - Brass ( Yellow ) - Aluminium (Silver) - Casting on BBQ's break easy and shatter and don't stick to a magnet. Those are worth more once you take the bolts off or anything magnetic from the Top and Botom, Also collect the Brass fitting from Each BBQ they are Brass, Dirty brass is like 1,80$ a pound, add up quick.

In my neighborhood down here in the United States it is considered technically illegal for anyone but the city Sanitation Dept to pick up anything that is put out on the curb for trash. They won't bother you if you are just walking by and see something that someone put out and you take it. But if you go around in a truck picking stuff up you can get into trouble. BTW, your wife is very pretty.

We had an article in our local paper that says that anything put out on trash day for pickup is considered to be the property of the trash pickup company and that anyone dumpster diving/trash taking is stealing and can be arrested. Our town does massive recycling and I'm sure the trash company wants any money that would could from any metal. Big change from when I was a kid and people understood that if it was at the roadside, then you didn't want it and anyone could have it....

How can this be when the most industrialization is in the Northern hemisphere??? The reason Freon gas got nobbled was due to Dupont's patent running out on Freon22 and so a pretext was created to ban it so Dupont could have a patent protected run on their next refrigerant gas!

In the uk we do it in pickup vans. The amount of overloaded vans u see about is crazy. In the area I live, they use a CD with a Bugle type horn track and various other recordings, play it through a loudspeaker on repeat. That way we know that they are coming.

Tell you what its great if your doing this on your own and people can't be bothered to bend there backs or get there hands dirty. The problem you have telling all the people what to do and how and most importantly how much money they can make , that will kill you rather dont say anything enjoy the spoils and live happy. Hear in France it was just like that it wad paradise. But then the people got wind of it and now if you ask anyone for a little scrap they say how much do you give me for it and they prefer to bring there dishwasher or washing mashien by them selfs to the scrap just to make 3 euros. Its goten impossible hear to do scrap. Then the Romainiens how steal ewerything they sea. Had a knife fight with 3 of them the othet day over 2 alloy broomsticks and a car tirer . So i advice all scrapers of the US just dont give up traid secrets its never good. Hi, This brings back some memories for me, did a lot of these runs here in the Netherlands when I was a kid. On a bike, just before school once a month. I couldn't sleep the night before, always curious what to find, and how to stay ahead of the truck. Mostly I did two runs trough the village, one the evening before, and one the next day. Processing is key!! If you have the space. And time is the other, waiting and watching scrap value is like the poor mans stock market. A ton one day can be a few bucks a month or so later and it can triple. You're a smart person my friend!! Most people find this beneath them, but they're the ones covered in debt most of the time.

So going to start doing this I live in the country you find all kids of crazy stuff like this on the roads where people just dump stuff.
