I made a little challenge for myself that I can only use scraps I have on hand for. Not too original, I know. But I'm having to resist letting the plan get too fancy and requiring some piece of wood I don't have on hand. Your project turned out great, and the your commentary throughout was very good. The only problem is that you can't see that beautiful figure when it's in use!

That kind of challenge can be a lot of fun and very rewarding! The figure is blocked when I use it but there’s still some awesome figure on the back too! Thanks for watching!

Nice practice project. I save many of my smaller scraps... labeled as to what project they come from and to test my finishes on them to see what I like. Once I get one to my liking, I can label it with what I did to achieve it and save that for future reference. Comes in handy when you need to match work pieces down the road.

Fantastic project. At this point in my woodworking plans are better for me. I'm not much on designing from scratch, but I'm working on it. Loved this project. Loved the USMC sticker on the back wall as well.

Thank you! I still use a lot of plans myself, but after you build a couple versions of something, you start to get your own ideas on how to change it up to suit your own style.

Completely agree! The best way to learn is through more practice, but I get so bored if I have to do the same thing over and over again! So it’s good to look for new ways to do things or make it more interesting!

I'm gonna make one, thanks for the idea.....Question, I noticed on your Saw Stop that on the "o" clearance for the blade that there's a wood piece along the outer edge to the cast iron, what might this be?
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks 4 ай бұрын
That is an aftermarket zero clearance insert with replaceable center strips. In the long run it's much cheaper than the Sawstop inserts. infinitytools.com/products/sawstop-zero-clearance-throat-plate-with-three-inserts?variant=46847612485921

Hi! I have a question! I just finished watching your video on dos and don'ts of wood staining (Love the way you explained everything while also demonstrating) and you sanded a piece up to 180. What if you sand it higher than that? Im currently sanding a piece of furniture and I won't be staining it, I will be applying danish oil and started sanding with 100 and my plan was to go up to 320... to much? Thanks for reading and for your videos! I'll really appreciate it if you respond!
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks Жыл бұрын
Sanding to higher grits will start to burnish the wood which closes the pores and prevents some of the stain/oil/finish from absorbing into the wood. If I’m not applying stain I might sand up to 220. I’m actually sanding a piece right now and I’m going up to 220 since it’s very figured wood and I’m using a hard wax oil finish. I would not recommend sanding up to 320 except on end grain. You can sand end grain one grit higher to get a more even finish since it tends to absorb more than the other grain. Otherwise there is really nothing to gain by sanding to higher grits and you might have issues with the finish.
