The “sander headlight” is a terrific idea. When pulling smaller pneumatic nails they break if you try to pull them out with a channel lock. I’ve had good success holding the nail with a pliers and using a hammer or small bar to lift the pliers straight up. You’re not trying to bend the nail so it doesn’t break and usually comes out quite easily.

Both your router tips were great!!! To get diameter ( 16:48 ), you could wrap a string around to get circumference and divide by pi
@TheShooter762 Жыл бұрын
Use blue tape. Works better than string.
@artyb27 Жыл бұрын
Isn't there a risk with string that the circumference you're measuring isn't perpendicular to the cylinder's edge, and is therefore longer than the cylinder's true circumference? I guess tape solves that problem since it'll only go on flat.

Love the sander headlight. We used to use a raking flashlight to detail drywall for repaint. My drywall guy says it’s not flat but the illusion of flat. Like the leaving a tail on peel off backings. With regular tapes I fold the end over to leave a grip tab.

great tips as well and especially like the airstream tip! 🙂 Side note, let's see you do the channel lock / nail trick with a 23ga pin nail! Those damn things drive me nutz!
@thetoolman3 Жыл бұрын
Good tips. For pulling smaller nails, or ones that are nearly flush, i like to use end cutting pliers. The sharp jaws grip better, and they have the same rounded shape to lever the nail out. Plus they're wider than channel lock pliers, so they're less likely to dent the wood. Sliding a putty knife under the jaws prevents dents, too.

Measuring tip: Wrap a string around the item you are trying to measure and mark the length. Put that against your tape measure to get the circumference, divide that by pi to get the diameter, and divide that number by 2 to get the radius...

I use System 3 T-88 epoxy for voids. It's structural epoxy that I had left over (had some dry rot outside), but It's viscous and works well for filling things like knot holes in black walnut. It's in 2 containers, resin and hardener, so you only mixup what you need.

The rubber band on the paint can is a good one. I have found that punching three or 4 holes in the channel around the top of the can allows material to drip back into the can. Works well on gallon cans when product gets trapped in the channel when pouring.

Channel locks do great for pulling nails but I've found bull nips as my preference. They tend to mar less because the nips head are broader. Also they don't bend the nail as much, so pulling the nail is straighter leaving less hole and tear out behind. Love your stuff. I am now a committed pizza hole joiner from this day forward.

Measuring diameters: I bought a tape measure without looking at it too much and it turns out that on the back side it has "inch" dimensions that are 3.1415" apart. You wrap it around whatever, read the number, and you see what the diameter is. It's pretty neat. I don't have much use for it, but I like that it exists.
@Anguisette Жыл бұрын
on a similar note, the forestry industry has "diameter tape" also known as "logger tape" used for measuring the diameter of trees, basically using the same method srwapo described, but thought a few search terms might be helpful for anyone interested

I punch holes in the rim groove of paint cans (etc) and the material will drain back inside the can. The lid goes back on and seals the can again. Also no splash when you hammer the lid tight. Especially handy when you pour liquid into another container instead of dipping brush in the can.

The channel lock trick I remember doing when i was 6 years old. My dad and uncle tasked me with pulling nails out of board's to give me something to do for a while and to keep me out of their hair. I had nails with heads too small for the hammer so I started digging in the tool box saw the channel locks and figured I could pull them out. Didn't work, but then i pushed down . Total accidental discovery of a 6 year old turned into one of the best tricks I still use.

Where do you mine? Because i have had no luck when I tried mining. I always find it surrounded in something, like paint or resin. I can never find raw pine. Maybe its my location. But i do also seem to find bone nearby. If i am very lucky, gold in what i think is ivory? Always very small amounts tho so almost not worth it. Be careful while mining for pine, tho. It has become very competitive and I have found people like to use emotional tactics to keep their loot. So much crying lately.
@mattrinne Жыл бұрын
I used to do the slip joint pliers for pulling nails. Went to end nippers. More surface to not dent wood. Gets right down to the wood surface for grabbing the nail (pliers might not grab tiny tip well) and has wide head so long nail can pass through the side and you can keep prying. Just dont squeeze grip too hard so it won't cut the nail. I found the Menards tool shop shape to be best and super cheap. I've pried more nails than I'm proud to admit. Its my favorite. Had to weed through quite a few crappy ones to find the best. Not the best machining from the factory.
