Scrapbooking Baby's First Year (pre-scrapping for twins/multiples)

This came at the perfect time for me. Going to be a grandmother for the first time in Nov and have been thinking about doing a book for my DIL. Have watched the scrapbook videos and think I can do this even though I am not a scrapbooker. Thanks for sharging what you have learned.

so precious are those pages/pictures! thank you for sharing them with us and the great ideas! Didn't look as dated as I thought at 10 yrs. because they were done so well, and they are bound to be 'dated' because they are. My favorite was the clock like calendar pic of every month for the 1st year! Seriously AWESOME!

This is beautiful, I love the whole book. It is not dated at all, what I find fantastic about scrapbooks is you don't just see the child/person or event evolve you get to see historically how scrapbooking and memory keeping evolves. Thank you so much, Lindsay! My daughter is pregnant with their daughter and I planned on making a mini album for her. I love this idea, too, I think I'll show this to her and we can make it together, keeping the mini album a surprise of course. Debbie :)

I actually did an 8x8 blank scrapbook for a friend for her baby, and gave her some extra themed goodies to add to it, this is an excellent gift and fun to do.

I did scrapbooks for my nieces before their babies were born and made them into a story...."This is my Mom...This is my Dad...this is how they announced my existence to friends on Facebook..." etc. All they had to do was add pics! Project Life page protectors really helped with that.

Beautiful Lindsay! and great idea. I think pre-scrapping is a great idea for so many events from trips, to engagements, to college - seriously my oldest is at college and keep thinking about going through his FB and printing off pictures he is tagged in and just printing who is in the picture so he has a physical copy.

I have friends whose two boys were both born on the same day of the month (different months and years, btw) and this has led them to take photos of each boy on every 6th of the month, no matter what. Some months they've not remembered until the boys are in bed asleep, but they still go and take the pics. The oldest starts college next month and so these monthly pics will finally stop (for the elder boy, that is) I've also asked these friends if their boys are ever not entirely gorgeous and perfect looking and had it pointed out that I only see the highly edited version of the boys' scrapbooks! :) Anyway, your first year, month-by-month page made me think of this. What a neat habit to build to make that month-by-month photo wheel happen. Another young friend posts a new photo on Facebook each week with a placard near the baby's face reading "1 week," "2 weeks," etc. He's now 40 weeks old and her comment this past week was, "The 40 weeks we waited for him to be born were endless. The 40 weeks since have whizzed right by!" So many fun ways to document our kids' lives. And I did none of them. But I'm old enough to be your mother, Lindsay and few of us had the means while raising our kids to take endless photos like we all do now with digital cameras!

Cindy Matthews I have very few photos from childhood, cameras were precious and only brought out on special occasions so I can relate:) Now it seems that pictures are not important or cherished because we can take them with everything from a phone to a child's video game device. It swings both ways. Do not regret, we do what we can with what we have and I'm sure your children remember all of the special event pictures or no. Hey, it's never too late to start!

So glad you shared this Lindsay! I just happen to have 3 grand babies on the way. And I am making them all a 1st. year baby book. I would have never thought of putting a calendar page in. I love this idea! Thank you for sharing! Is there anything you can't do????? I think not! ;)

So nice !! I like the arrangement of the pictures ! I think I have a big problem with cutting my photos or printing them smaller. In fact I have all of them the same size. I can't decide witch one is a bit less important than the other so I can print it smaller.Since the photos are all the same size my album looks dull. I know it looks stupid but can't help it. Do you have a hint ?

Styl'Harmony Decoration I print them at home with collage software like ipicci, it would be hard to do that at a photo lab I think.

Hi there! I know "Ask a crafter" is on hiatus for the summer, but I have a burning question about dies that I wanted to pick your brain about. I recently purchased a Big Shot and love it! Not knowing much about the world of die cuts, I picked up a few of the Fiskars expansion pack embossing plates that were meant to be used with the Fiskars fuse machine. The store I purchased them from only had a little card on display and they give you the product from a locked display case at the checkout, so I couldn't see what the product was before I bought it to see if it would work. The expansion pack was not what I thought it was and I am not sure if I should take it back or try and use them with my Big Shot machine. Have you ever tried using those with the big shot? I think I would need a foam shim or mousepad or something to use with them since I don't have the actual die that they are meant to fit into. I don't mind cutting the embossed shapes out by hand, but I am apprehensive about putting the plastic pieces through my new big shot machine. Any ideas? Tips? Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Kim Roman I think I would take it back. the plastic pieces are for letter-pressing the design in soft thick paper. It was probably expensive too, I think I would exchange them fro a set of nestabilities which would be more useful.

awe thanks so much...a few question...when you do this as a gift...do you give them glue runners or something to attach pics, so you include extra stickers for words, and would you do 2 pages for every month? thanks for al your help, Meli

Meli Isen I would give it complete and a roll of double sided tape and a nice pen. Keep it simple because when you have a new baby you are lucky to get a shower some days let alone attempt anything too difficult. You might make a little pocket in the book for the pen and adhesive so it will all be right there.

I'm guilty of taking on more than I can handle. I decided as a new scrapper to print out photos from my life as a baby until around my late twenties, with me and all my family. I completed two books that were shorter for my stepson and bff from high school. Now I don't remember which page goes to which album for family and the albums are discontinued, so I can't add on. Also, when we moved my lovely exhubby had the movers just throw everything in a box and my pics and pages grouped together are a messy jumble! Any advice? Help! Lol

Nora Peevy OK, have a glass of wine, invite your gilfriends over and b*&%$ about the ex while you sort through the photos! You will fee so much better...you might want a box of wine come to think of it. There is no rush, do a little at a time, say 20 minutes a day of sorting, and it will be done in no time. I'm sorry your ex was a poopy-head:(
