I too learned much from this video. I absolutely love all the stitching. I'm going to give it a try. I have already seen your stitching video, but I would have loved a slow motion shot of you doing the baseball-style stitching on the stars. Just something to keep in mind in case you decide to do a stitching video number 2.

Allison I really loved seeing your process. Sometimes I wonder if you make a layout & then create the sketch and page kit afterwards or if you start with an idea, make the sketch & finalize it. Or if you just started with a SG sketch that was already made. I love how your mind thinks. ColieBing & RTS got me hooked on SG. But this made me subscribe. Thank you for sharing!!
@allisondavis4sg9444 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I do a little bit of all that you said. Sometimes I use a sketch that is already made and then create a layout based on it. Sometimes, most often with kits, I will create the layout first and then create a sketch from that layout. The reason I do it that way is that the sketch is serving as directions in the kit to show how to create the layout. For this video I used a sketch from a bundle that I had made a year or so ago. I have told myself for years that I want to go back and create layouts from so many of the sketches that I've made, but I seldom get around to actually doing it. I create sketches all the time so trying to keep up is hard!

I have always admired your layouts and it is so great to be able to see your process. I had one question though, what is the brand of foam mat that you use for your piercing? I haven't been able to find one.
@allisondavis4sg9444 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! The one I have is from Bazzill. I don't believe they make it anymore. It seems like tools for stitching on paper are become more and more rare. Really you could make your own piercing mat from either a piece of foam or a piece of cork board. I would say that cork board would probably be the easiest to find and it works just the same as the foam. I just happen to prefer the foam one I have because I like that it is 6 x 12". I hope that helps!

Allison, I love this video! I wanted to know if it bothers you when you layout the grid and there is a small grip between a grid square and if so how do you fix it. I can not stand it but when I try to fix it then it throws all the grid squares off. Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for starting this YT channel--love all your work!
@allisondavis4sg9444 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes! I have that happen all the time! It can be so frustrating! First, I will check to make sure everything is straight. Sometimes it can be one square that needs to be adjusted and then everything fits perfectly. Second, if I feel like everything is arranged straight, I see if I can figure out the source of what is throwing things off to create that gap. Sometimes I didn't cut something straight and even just the tiniest bit can throw everything else off. If that's the case I'll re-cut the piece I need. If it's a photo and I can't re-cut, I just try to make the best of it. Sometimes with a photo I'll cut it down slightly smaller than the original planned size and add a photo mat to it. Third, I hit the point where I just accept that it's not going to be perfect and do the best I can. lol! A lot of times there might be slight gaps in between some of my squares, but once the whole layout is put together it's not really all that noticeable. If I feel like my first and second options aren't possible, I'll just center the square in the space and make it work. I hope that helps!

Thanks Allison

@allisondavis4sg9444 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Heidi! The ruler is a 6 x 12" quilters ruler (or at least that's what I think it's called). I got mine at I believe Wal-mart in the crafty/sewing section. It's sooooo handy and helpful. I use it on every single layout I make. The paper piercing mat is from Bazzill, but they don't make them anymore. They are actually kind of hard to find these days. You can use a cork board too. I used to use a cork one until I got the foam one and it works just as well. I hope that helps!
