To me, it depends on the car - and the primary issue. I had warranty repair to my 360 Berlinetta, and was approached to replace the engine mounts 'while we're in there'... ON ME, not under warranty. They should last at least 50,000 miles before repair and the car had only 15,000 on it. RIP OFF! You gotta know whether or not the items your dealer wants to replace should need replacement.

Amazing I have been watching this video and your project rebuild of the 997 turbo. I went through the exact same thing that you were doing but not on a turbo just a 997 When I purchased the car the engine had been blown. I sent it to E Megatronic In Hartford Connecticut. It was a 3.6 L and we had it reboard and now there’s a 3.8 L with race pistons. I also did a complete exterior so that it has all the GT3 Front and rear spoiler‘s. It seems we are following the same path and how we shopped. I also found the same front splitter as you did for around $500. I am interested in seeing how you complete your project as I just completed my project after a two-year project. I am so happy with my car right now it has 575 hp.
@alangil402 жыл бұрын
Did you supercharge it? 575hp seems a lot out of a normally aspirated M97 with just race pistons. Curious where you got the power from? I have a 997.2 with the 9A1 3.8L.

Great video. Sounds like you may have gotten away relatively cheaply, reassembly with the coolant pipe fixes, straighten one rod, possibly one new piston, deck one head and timing chain guides? That’s sounds good, I’m anxious to see what turbos, intercoolers, headers, exhaust and tune you go with. Personally I’d shoot for +50% over stock (700-750 hp) and keep it safe and useable, but I get the attraction of that large and round 1000 hp number. As for the Numeric shifter I would try before you buy. Many people love it but it was way too tight/short for me. I had one on my old 996 turbo and is notch and takes too much concentration. Too easy to make a mistake.
@scraplifegarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info on the shifter! We’ll definitely be doing with aftermarket rods. All the fabspeed stuff that was on the car will be getting sold and replaced. I can say the exhaust will be custom, turbo kit and tuning by AIM. Intercoolers are TBD.

Mezger and his engines are legendary. But they are fraught with issues. I have a 997 turbo and have had every known major failure. Trust me, drive them long enough and you'll have all the issues. The newer turbos are not race bred and don't have true dry sumps, but they are much more reliable.

@@Patrick-jc9pb They also lay down power and the rods and pistons (as shown here) are superior. But if you're like me and all you've done is a Europipe exhaust, no tune, no big turbos etc., the constant fear of more breakdowns is annoying. But I agree, still cool to say my engine was essentially ported from a race car that actually won races vs designed on a computer.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!

That’s a good observation, I agree. There wasn’t a smoking gun “OH, THAT’S IT” but it was a lifted/overheated and warped head, or internal head gasket failure. Well I tried to leave a comment for the 997 that had 3 different colors but there........was.............no..........place..for....it So now I will leave my comment for that. I am interested in how things are, why they are, how much$$$ Not until this video did I get to see your tat ice cream cone. Nice looking and with the creature (chicken on steroids can't see it clear enough) Not the flavors I will pick ;-) but it works well for the tat. -Now onto this video. - I love Porsche's and have one, I only have one as one great best is better than several o.k's. - Past 993 I don't care so much but I do like looking and hearing about every single aspect of them, technical details and this build -but I wouldn't want one. - You have a great voice, excellent content, full of interesting things, to see, great production quality and no stupid music to INTERFER with content and flowt and of course Porsches. - I won't be looking at the Corvettes you have worked on; not interested at all. - I was supposed to be in bed 40 minutes ago but I wanted to see the end of this video. Am I a child or what? My car is a 1986 911 Carrera RestoMod-Outlaw. I know there are words describing this but here are my words. Resto short for restore, Mod as in modern, together is means restoring to modern. For me that is LED headlight and side lights, 2000 Boxster brakes (these have 4 pistons my car had 2, bigger everything). Butt welded steel turbo flares just hoe they made them in Germany at the factory. Outlaw for racing and the decals on the side window like in the 50-70's showing what race parts you have. This is your channel so no more details, to much for your site but I do race hill climbs which are more dangerous than tracks. Only one more year and then I am through. I have a stack of cash in/on my car and the odds are that I will crash in one of the hillclimbs. So how good and original is my car. At the PCA 2019 Werks Reunion in Monterey CA Dr. Wolfegang Porsche, the "Grandimbasador" chose my car out of the 150+ car being Judged for the Porsche Corporate trophy best DESIGN and it wan't a classic car, it was a RestoMod-Outllaw. The GT3 spoiler is for downforce and reduces the top speed. The Turbo has a max. speed of ca.200mph and the 911 Turbo aero kit is designed to keep the car at this speeds stable. Porsche has ca. 7000 specialists at their development facility in Weissach and many of them have even a phd in engeering. So don´t think to be more clever than Porsche itself, the guys at Porsche exactly knew what they do. The 992 Turbo has adjustable spoiler and you get at high speed even a spoiler alert if you have them in the flase setting. You have to bee in Sport for high speed and not Sport+ as Sport + is for the race track. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ3QdmavetSMfcU

@@scraplifegarage The best way to improve the value of a 911 is to keep it serial and replace worn parts with original parts - may be used. Porsche is like Apple and no one buys a "improved" 2nd hand IPhone. You can only improve the performance of the engine, and this even to insane levels. But this is also difficult as Porsche uses VTG turbos who also deliver much power at low RPM. By changing the turbos with bigger ones, you loose the power at low RPM. 9ff even made new air intakes to provide the engine the needed air: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmaqpmuInb2tqc0
