The only mistake I saw was at 5:15. When grinding the rings, grind one side only. Otherwise clean work! I build my 4G63s/64s pretty close to this and run the same crank. I use A dial bore gauge on the crank bearing bores directly with the main bearings installed and cradle torqued, instead of the snap gauge/micrometer method. I've never seen that crank sensor setup before on this block. Very cool!
@wyrdplae8586
@wyrdplae8586 2 ай бұрын
What does that do? Is it because if you grind both sides you change the geometry of the opening, once it's installed, in a negative way? Does it make the opening more wedge shaped?
@ranyothman5211
@ranyothman5211 2 ай бұрын
@wyrdplae8586 Correct, you want to keep one factory edge to compare to so that both ring ends stay perfectly parallel when grinding the rings.

I may be mistaken, but aren't certain bolts supposed to have sealant on them because of the way the coolant passages run through the block? I know you had to remove certain bolts and add sealant to them, the first time you built this engine. Love the ASMR aspect of this video! At high RPMs, I’ve heard that if the circlip opening is at three or 9 o’clock that it could compress the circlip enough to fall out. This has never happened to anyone I know but it does makes sense. Could just be a myth, but just incase, I always place the opening at 12 or 6.

Very good build overall. The only thing I wouldn’t do is use silicone, especially on the oil pan - there are gaskets for that. If, for any reason, silicone ends up blocking the oil pump pickup tube, it’s goodbye engine - and I’ve seen that happen before.
@antilaggabe

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the mistake was rotating the crank while tightening the crank timing gear, without a timing belt, the engine is now not top dead center. 14:50 other than that beautiful video🤘🏼
@wyrdplae8586
@wyrdplae8586 2 ай бұрын
I don't think this matters. Also anyone feel free to correct ME too. Always happy to learn. Because he hasn't timed the cams it doesn't matter if the crank is TDC on the compression stroke or if it's 360 degrees out as he still has the timing mark on the crank pulley to get it back to TDC. Being that a 4 stroke has 2 rotations of the engine between TDC comp. stroke and the next TDC of the next compression stroke. Or put another way. The 2 times #1 piston is at the top of it's stroke is one for the top of compression stroke and one for the top of the exhaust stroke it doesn't actually matter which one he is on, because the Cam is the only thing that is different between those two. The crank and pistons are all identical. This is effectively saying if you set an engine to TDC on it's #1 compression stroke, then take off the head, rotate the crank 360 degrees and then put the head back on. It is still fine. as even though the crank and block are sort of "as if" they were on exhaust stroke TDC, thus 'feeling' like it's now out of time. That doesn't matter because the valves in the head are still set as if the engine is on it's compression stroke for #1 cylinder. So it IS on that stroke. So he can always get back to TDC. Only time it might matter in terms of being a mistake is if he were to hit the valves with the piston while he turns the engine. but I don't think with the force he is turning it that it would even do anything. He does have the cams in so the valves would be open but I also don't know if this engine is an interference engine (meaning valves enter the space that the piston enters), probably is as I think most performance engines are.

There were a few mistakes. The PTW you measured was .0045, not .045. You put the pistons in backwards - the larger valve reliefs are for the intake valves, but they were installed on the exhaust side. You installed the oil pump front cover assembly with a missing dowel, there should be 2 to locate the gasket and cover properly. Didn't appear to put any ARP lube on the threads of the main studs, only the washers. Used too much silicone in a few places.

Super clean. But I think I know what's the mistake. I'm not pretty sure, but I think you're supposed to check the piston rings gap in its specific cylinder where it should be, and it I think the piston ring should be put lower in the cylinder cause the way you're putting it might be even higher than TDC. Probably not required in most engines, but just guessing! Please correct me if I'm wrong
