You could make a Road train, where every trailer does something different. One can be a crafting station, one can be for oil refining with a oil collector, one can be a refinery and one can be a garage for the mining vehicles. A driving fortress would also be cool. You also could put sawblades on the outside for protection.

In future episodes, I know SM will create a mobile base. Just a suggestion, create a truck like in GTA, a mobile operations center. Which both will look awesome and can be functional as well. I was thinking that the mining and cutting vehicle is seperate (either welded or towed) and the truck has a built in pump where you can pump up oil and water. Idk just a thought.

Hey ScrapMan. I’m really loving this series, and especially the idea of having a massive mobile base. I have an idea for you that might be worth considering. Another KZbinr called Brothgar once decided to move one of the scrap towns, and made massive wheels out of suspension and boots that were able to move the entire building easily. The video is called something like “I reinvented the wheel with the power of sole” and I recommend you watch it not only for the idea but also because it is highly entertaining. I think that using a similar idea would allow for you to make a massive mobile base and not have to worry as much about space and compacting everything down, but in the end it’s up to you and I’m sure you’ll manage no matter how you chose to do it.

You DO NOT need an engine for drills and sawblades! You can get away with using a contoller on the highest speed! That's what I did and it works without wasting any fuel because controllers don't use any batteries.

I still say a nomad would be like a Drifter. Meaning they wouldn't do big farms. Only small, low value farms. Never enough to get an illegal farming warning. Building too big feels like settling. . . as if your acting more like a farmer building a barn and everything than a nomad. (multiple farms far away would still be allowed, just as long as no raid warning)

Put an upside down ramp* on the front and back of your vehicle, this will make it so that when you drive into a bot it will ragdoll and be guided to the bottom the car, crushing them instantly. This works really well, I did it for my own game and ended up with thousands of scrap metal blocks just from casually driving around (I put a resource collector and refiner on it), so you dont even need to drill stone to get metal. *Note the "Ramp" can just be two long horizontal pipes (In line with the width of your vehicle), one at the Haybot's head height, and the second (Behind the first) at the Totebot's head height, this will make both bots ragdoll reliably.

Hey ScrapMan. I saw the first Nomad video and tried the challenge out myself. I am actually pretty happy with the mobile base that i came up with. It has drills for mining, retractable saw blades for tree cutting, 2 resource collectors, and a chain of large chests going through a craft bot and a refinery bot. I am starting to enjoy this world a lot more than my other worlds because i always have everything with me. I never have to stop what I'm doing, go back home, get the stuff i need, and go back. now i just look back and have all my stuff with me. I plan on making my mobile base in creative and posting it on the workshop later this weekend. I'll reply to this post with the link to it here once it's uploaded

You can have a drill on your car. Just use a controller to power it. The drill actually doesn’t have to rotate very fast. As long as the drill has steady contact to the rocks, it’ll be fine. Do some basic tests in creative mode, the controller will do a great job. To reduce vibrations and have better contact, you can put a suspension between bearing and drill.

for farming, there are small little islands that can spawn off the shore. if you plant crops there, only the green bots will swim towards you. the haybots will stay on the shore. this will make defending your farm much easier

You have a vacuum pump for fruit and veggies, suck up some water and use it for watering your crops. Then you can plant them anywhere you see fit.

What I once did in a nomad file was have a tier 3 metal/concrete bus with a built in watering system. the bottom opened up to the ground for planting and I could water them all with the push of a button. I would farm on peninsulas so there was only one side to defend and I had a turret on top. Unfortunately that save file got corrupted somehow so I no longer have it but it was really cool. Prior to having the bus, I built temporary defenses like you're doing now.

Very smart move to put the beets down first so they are detected. The minimum needed to start a raid is 10 Tier 1 crops for future farms like the one at the trader. Love this series so far! Edit: Also, just if you don't want a horrible raid when you plant the blueberries/oranges, plant beets/carrrots/tomatoes first on the SAME tile as you want to plant the blueberries

Broaden the function of your vehicle or use those 4 tires and saddle to make your resource collector. I recommend adding a refinebot to your main vehicle, the weight is worth it for the time you will save shaving robot legs. May as well use the stone for your defenses instead of the wood. If you build a second vehicle, remember to build a docking station on your main vehicle. Probably better to plan that ahead and make it roomy enough for the creation *and* a refinebot, set up so the refinebot dumps into a chest connected to the craftbot's input.

You could build a crop watering system on the underside of the vehicle. All you have to do is drive over the crops and activate it. Also, you could have separate vehicles that can be lifted up by the main vehicle like how a garbage truck picks up bins.

Update the mobile base with vacuum pumps so it will a) pick up corn and items on your drivabout and b) pick up your farm crops for harvesting (you could also do water cannons so one front, one back and that would balance vehicle weight) and if your sticking with small crops then build your vehicle to cove a 3x7 grid of crops and put defences on the mobile base so you can park it on your crops at raid time ftw, gg great series keep up the content

once the base gets bigger, you can make a drop down farm defense that comes from your vehicle, it’ll surround the crops with strong walls and defend it with spud guns.. and once your done with the farm.. pack up the soil and put the farm defense back in your vehicle

You could be using those tote bot heads to bulk your vehicle out and give it some defense. Another idea would be to make Ur vehicle a 6 wheeler. The back bit should have all the heavy stuff like bots and chests, then make it easy to remove by just picking up a line of blocks. To put it back place a line of blocks and weld it back . That way u could use it to mine without all the weight.

I think its a good idea to have a separate vehicle that mines and have it to where you can put it in a box. The box will have everything in it for the mining vehicle and it will have saw blades for when you start cutting trees all in that one box. I also think you should do something similar but with a hauling vehicle that has the motor power to get up hills and haul some of the cut trees or mining rocks or metal and maybe give it some guns to protect it self and leave your main base in hiding as you haul your cargo and stuff to the trader.

For oil harvesting, you should put a pump under your vehicle so you can just drive up to an oil pond and activate the pump and then go do something else while you wait for it to fill up, then you can just go somewhere else and you wouldn’t need to build anything on the ground.

Put all of your machines on a trailer that you can "deploy" but not weld, separate from your vehicle, then after 1 day you have to pack it up. It could transform into a structure with a button and then fold back up into a trailer. Since you will be farming you can deploy it at the farm and go get resources.

You should be able to have multiple farms but after you use 1 farm you need to wait 2 full days before you can use the same farm again on the 3rd day, and as far as defenses you can have anything as long as it doesn't pass 5 blocks away from the nearest crop plot, so you can build something 5 blocks away and 16 blocks high, I think that's a good way to balance the game without making it ridiculous on you to have to delete everything every day

Add some kind of arm on the base instead of multiple bases joined by a "rope". Like a drilling arm that has a lot of mobility and a pew pew arm, that has a lot of horizontal mobility, but not a lot of vertical mobility.

What about leaving plantations behind? Bots won't attack them, and you can act like nomads did when they migrated seasonally - you can change locations to a new soil patch every day, but you can't use the same one twice in a row/within two harvest? Otherwise you'll be devoting a day to picking up soil after every harvest. You also def need a trailer at this point; I'd design it with fold-down sides to maximize the space you get (may not be feasible at this tech stage).

1. Devs can we get a streamer light mode? The option says it's not the intended experience because it lights up the night way more for content creators. 2. I would put most of your things on a removable trailer and make the cab the miner 3. If you do make a trailer it would be amazing if you gave it a piston wall around it. You could park the trailer over your crops and lift it by lowering the outside walls, then you won't have to build/dismantle the crop protection everytime. Bonus the miner will be fuel efficient when your not hauling the trailer around.

i think how the raid system works is at the time the raid spawns it scans the tier of crops and the amount and then determines the raid level then not when you planted the crops

As somebody who builds a lot of semis and rvs with everything they own on it the trick to a mobile base is not so much is my car safe but is the stuff on my car that allows me to run away safe and is my belongings safe. so long as you meet those two things it doesn't matter if you build the entire thing out of wood so long as you know when you to stay and fight and when to run away.

Build your base as a caravan and attach it at the back of your vehicle that would be useful because you can build defenses around it and weld it near your farm plot so your car would only pull the vehicle while you are living and crafting in the caravan

I think he should be allowed to have total of 4 or five spud guns for defending he's (TEMPORARY FARM) and you should be able to plant only 20 cropes to make it more interesting

Bro, you need to go to a controller based engine. Zero gas, lots of torque, great for pulling heavy loads. I've got a tractor trailer in my survival world that runs off of controllers, and I can do a road train with it pretty easy. Then just build a smaller deployable vehicle for exploring and scavenging.

Here’s an idea I have the craft bar and a trailer along with a vacuum pump that can absorb oil or chemicals and put them in a container and also can absorb materials to put be put in the chest it might be a little bit big but then you basically have automatic crafting also it might help with the weight distribution and could help with fuel efficiency

you should make like a train kinda. A tug car the first one, and then the rest so mining you can have one that just collects water when you backj up into it. Idk but it might be useful although the gas usage might be alot. Maybe the tug car should run on batterys.

You should disconnect the engine from the seat but keep the sterring connected to the seat then it will be like autodrive but you just have you steer it so that when you are going straight you could get out of the vehicle but stay on the vehicle and then you could craft

The raid is based on the added crops after it says unauthorized farming and already existing crops and adds it together and even if you pick up the crop or destroy it they are included in the raid difficulty

I think when you get the recourses you should build a smaller vehicle that can attach to the big mobile base but detach if you need a smaller task like taking crates to the trader

I think the gas constraint isn't significant these days, at least once you can escape the roadless part of your map. Just pull up to an oil pond every few days and pump/craft a chest full, doesn't take long at all. It could be the same pump and chest you use for the packing station. No reason not to build your mobile base as big as you need.
