I totally agree with you on the clothes donations and what happens with these clothes. It is horrible sometimes. That's why I say if it's gently worn or even really worn always take your clothes donation to a local church or a local charity or local homeless shelter it'll do much better that way. There are a growing number of actual people who recycle clothes that are ripped or torn or unusable in the United States and its getting bigger of an industry which is really cool because now we can keep these things out of the landfill and their recycled into other things. There's this one company that I'm really interested in that takes old clothes and they put it through a process and they actually make blankets for moving and storage which I think is a wonderful thing actually. And there's also a company that is growing here in Orlando that takes old clothes that are unwearable watching some real good and makes blankets for homeless people and things out of them. So there is a way to try to keep things out of the landfill and keep them away from these people who do nothing but destroy the planet in the name of recycling. Thank you for bringing this up it's a wonderful thing

There’s a donation bin for Veterans down the street from me, so I like any clothes to go to them. Interesting information about donations overseas. I had no idea. Makes me think of the 50th anniversary of the death of my childhood hero, Roberto Clemente. He went on that fateful trip because the donations weren’t reaching the people. They were taken by those who were taking advantage of the people in order to control them. We never know what becomes of our good intentions, especially in faraway places. Keep on helping out your community! Nice to see your subs going up!

Paul, thank you for the education on recycling clothing. People should check with local mission groups who sort and send only good clothes to our own people who have been devastated by storms, etc. or we have a local one who sends medical equipment and good clothing to their affiliate groups overseas. Some thrift stores get things for free and then sell it for a hefty price. I wish there was a place we could donate and the people who are in need get it free.
@johannas.l.brushane2518 Жыл бұрын
? But the purpose for thriftshops is typically to raise money for a specific charitable purpose, the primary object is not to provide for cheap stuff. The objective can be to support cancerresearch, homelesshelters, animalrescue or what not. So if they recieve something nice, a piece of furniture or so, they can sell for $50 they should do so instead of doing it for $5, don't you think? While of course it may be tricky to set the exact right price, they wouldn't want the stuff to remain in the store for too long since regular customers may not be encouraged to buy anything if it's the same thing there week after week. You could donate at for instance Facebook marketplace, require taxstatements etc to decide who is in need and then probably pay for transport the ones in need perhaps can't afford?

12:17 I'm from the Coos Bay area, so I know that "mountain" of wood chips. It must have been at least 7 acres. In the 50's, 60's and 70's, when I was living in the area, there used to be a large billboard at the entrance of Coos Bay that read "Welcome to Coos Bay. The largest lumber shipping port in the world!". Was the Modoc stationed there when you were there? It may have been decommissioned sometime after the 80's because I saw a different Coast Guard ship docked in it's place the last few times I was visiting family. I REALLY miss my old stomping grounds.
