That is tough to watch an airplane you have worked on being totally destroyed and that is how I feel about the B-52 bombers since I worked on the D, G, and H models. I passed through Davis Monthan AFB, and knew that the old D models ended up there and the G models later ended up there also and was destroyed.
@alexandermakrianis8 жыл бұрын
Those aircraft looked like they'd been sitting there a long time and had usable parts stripped from them. They most likely couldn't have been returned to flying condition anyway, but it is still sad to watch this. At least the parts that were removed are most likely being used to keep other B-52s flying.

These aircraft had to be destroyed due to the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the USSR and the USA

This isn't being scrapped. It is a B-52G being destroyed in the AMARC boneyard in compliance with the START treaty. This was done by chopping the planes into five pieces and leaving them out in the open for the Russian satellites to photograph (trust, but verify).

VERY SAD to see. These machines had served their country proudly and well, and protected the country for many years! But *IF* the treaty brought the country a little further away from a nuclear war without making our country less secure (a much debatable point), they are still serving the country well even in their destruction!

As far as I know, all active B-52Gs were destroyed at this time in compliance with the treaty. At any rate, none remain in active service.

***** its an ugly piece of shit, made to bring terror, mass destruction and death. the best thing that could be done with it is to be cut up and turned into beer cans. (maybe save a few to put into museums to showcase the insanity during the cold war era, from both sides of course)
@koko19149 жыл бұрын
***** first of all, i said that both sides did some insane and very dangerous things during that time frame, not just america. secondly, the ugly piece of shit has come much closer to destroying parts of america and its allies than it did to defending it - look up the goldsboro incident, the one over spain and greenland during the 60s. and thirdly it is an offensive weapon, not defensive, so there goes your "defend our country" argument. there is no place in the world for shit like that, if they all get destroyed (again i am speaking of all sides, not just america) the world would be a better place

@Comm0ut2 жыл бұрын
People without aviation expertise should not permit themselves opinions, especially illiterates ('loosing", "waist"). Legacy fleets are a burden for the USAF to support no matter how many of the drooling masses think they're cool. Maintaining more squadrons than missions require bleeds resources from modernization and meat in cockpits is a burden not a blessing.
