You mentioned dollar a pound shipment. I average 30-50 cents shipping pallets.

Most of my viewers are hobby scrappers who don't generate enough material to ship in palletized loads. If someone is moving a lot of material, like you must be, then palletized loads make more sense.

I think those big boxes telecom ,cisco or something are usually difficult to buy there is one or two giant power supply's a giant fan plate and 2 or 3 good circuit board plates the steel box is also real heavy the best and easyest things to buy are just pc's

PC's are going for crazy money on most auction sites these days. Looking for odd ball things can be much less expensive and a lot more interesting. But you do need to be careful what you're bidding on.

Very cool vlog! I wonder about the economics of gold recovery. Seems like the cost of time and refining and energy would exceed the value of gold recovered. Shark, what's your take on this?

I agree with you. You need to really know what you're doing and have a good system down to make a profit at it. I leave the refining to the experts and stick with selling material to them.

By parting out, I'm assuming you mean selling each board. Depending on the board they have sold on eBay from $20 to $90. The boards were listed as used, tested, and sealed in anti-static. The listings I found took about a year to sell. Since I have no way of knowing how the system was stored prior to my purchase AND I have way to test the boards, I'm not comfortable trying to resell them for use. Even when thoroughly describe and with NO guarantee of functionality there is increased risk of upsetting the buyer. So I made the conscious decision to sell for scrap value. I hope this helps.

@@sharkscrapper depending on the models, some can bring over 1k per board. But the gold is valuable too. Older call centers and hotels will pay more than new prices to keep these old systems going because it it cheaper than replacing their entire system. Nevertheless, you seem to have found a profitable way to recycle this dinosaur. Not every board is worth top dollar, but the line cards and the call queueing modules are getting rare. I don't think this will be the case for much longer, VoIP is replacing most of this gear now days. Next time you get one... You may want to reach out to whomever runs the local 911 call center. I believe they are required to have hard lines and may be interested in buying some of the boards as spares.
