A friend of mine gave me a 1984 Color Trak tv. Trak might be misspelled. there was a huge crystal on it and a few chips but nothing else looked any good. At the same time he gave me a little 13" Sony and it was awesome a really nice big crystal oscillators with a beautiful gold bottom. Thank you for informative info! Keep up the good work Ben, love your work!!!!!

I used to go to yard sales and buy the CRT TV'S so they wouldn't end up in landfills and scrap them. You helped me identify the components. I had fun. Thanks for sharing Ben and the information you graciously share.

Hey Ben! Almost every crt board I've done had silver contacts in a little black box. Maybe 1/2 inch thick 1 inch tall 1 inch long. Don't miss out on that silver

Paul Yagoda, they are switches, most every circuit board has them, I save all of them myself and in my off time when I'm watching TV I take off the little contacts and save them up.

Hi! At 11:02 ÷ 11:05 you are holding an electronic plate which had that orange big thin condenser-like component on it. Usually they are some sort of quartz resonators as well and they do contain golden wires!! I did not see you checking on those!!

An old video. Still worth watching. Good to identify items. Wish it was better camera. Too much movement. Would like to see entire board as you depopulated it.

Nice vid Ben, whats the little buggers that conduct the board up into the heat sink? seems like they have copper underneath a nickel coating. Ive been sticking them in a tub just in case but nobody has ever mentioned them. Cheers.

PIPER DOUG Thanks Doug, they are Resistors and yes they are solid copper coated with tin. with the plastic they may go as copper baring but cleaned up the should go as tinned copper.

Why is there an image of a fully assembled CRT TV in the thumbnail image.

So does Crystal oscillators are silver and how much are in one of them? How do you re-find them or who do you sell them to?

You can find more crystal oscilators in that metal box where is antena plug.
@dr.a0065 жыл бұрын
PitsuMiwus I’ve always found one inside the metal case on one side or the other. Sometimes two. And break off the plug of it where the coax screws on. Brass I believe.

You gonna scrap that TV for some high quality metal so you can make that assault rifle?
@EZEILL8 жыл бұрын
the bits that are bolted to the heat sinks, what metal is inside of them? I broke one open and it looked like it could be gold or copper but I'm very new to scrapping so idk.
@eWasteBen8 жыл бұрын
copper, nothing is gold underneath, gold is only used as a contact, so gold on gold between a connection, like gold fingers slot into gold slots, gold pins slot into gold connectors or something with a gold base is mounted onto a bit of gold on a board, it's all plated, never solid unless it's fine gold bonding wire say inside a cpu.
@EZEILL8 жыл бұрын
+eWaste Ben another question is about the pins throughout the boards, aside from gold, what would other pins be made of or plated in? How would you determine which is which when it's not gold plated?
@eWasteBen8 жыл бұрын
if not gold plated then it's just tin or nickel.
@EZEILL8 жыл бұрын
Would that apply to the very flat connectors you'd find in things like laptops?
@eWasteBen8 жыл бұрын
yep, if not gold then tin plated

Can the Al Can Caps be recycled for the Al?
@eWasteBen8 жыл бұрын
they go as irony Al because they have acid inside them, but a few mixed in to regular wouldn't be noticed much.

capacitors should go for at least dirty aluminum. throwing away a lot of value there

Hi Ben, I know this is an old video, but I see a flyback transformer on the top left of that board. It should have some copper in it. It's the big black thing where the cord that goes to the tube comes from.
@gsmgsa7 жыл бұрын
the orange-red piece from the little board contains gold wire! You should scrap that!!

That board looks like it has a amount of tantalum.
@eWasteBen9 жыл бұрын
scott v crt boards generally don't have tantalum capacitors so what you see would be regular capacitors.
