Let me know... do you rip printers?

Those may not be much good for recycling for cash but as a maker, I'm constantly looking for printers for salvage. They always have nylon gears and stepper motors or motors with encoders, machined rods that make good axles or motor shafts, etc.

I agree... If you are looking to build stuff there is a lot of good stuff in there :-) Thanks for checking out the channel.

I like making miniatures, and yeah . . . that heap of "junk" plastic - gears and molded plastic - all the greebles! Id take those things apart for you and bring back the metal. Seriously, I pass through Oshkosh once or twice a year . . .

If I had the room I'd set them aside for you, but as you can see, my shop is a 10x20 garage and half is filled with the trailer :-( Just put the word out to friends you'll get tons of them for free :-) @@Roonasaur

I saw a ad for 2 printers for free one works one does not, decided since I was in need of a printer and beginning to start scrapping, I might as well pick them up. After seeing your video I'm not to sure I will continue seeking them out.

I've been taking apart old printers for about 10 years now, and I keep all the machined rods for various projects. The plastic IS recyclable! The electronic boards I toss in the garbage. The little motors I take apart for the magnets inside. Old ink cartridges go in the garbage. Staples doesn't have that program anymore unfortunately. All metal bits I take to the metal recycler.

Thanks for sharing... for a hobby scrapper it is fine, for someone trying to squeak out a living not so much. Thanks for checking out my channel :-)

When I ran my scrap business I documented the scrapping of over 1,000 printers and scanners and catalogued every bit of recyclable material I recovered from each (ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, precious metals, circuit boards, plastics, metal, glass, etc.). I had planned to publish the data but never did. I'm not sure how useful it would have been to anyone anyway. Bottom line: it's not worth it.

I will only do printers if someone hands it to me. I try to get the boards and motors rest is not worth it. Only caveat is that laser printers tend to have better motors and boards but you rarely find them. Basically pass on printers if u can. Sucks that there is so much plastic waste

Think they have better plastic gears than the cheapest toys. Was always wanted to build an actual claw machine that does work. For the grandkids. They do sell those things for kids. But they have weak plastic gears.

That would be a fun project :-) Thanks for watching! @@williamclark9624

Wow, good to know. Glad I've passed on all of them. You'd make better money looking for change in the Walmart parking lot. :) But in your case, yeah I'd just toss them in the dumpster. Great video though - very informative for those of us who scrap.

California adds something like $8 to every electronic purchase. The program is really weird on how to get money back. It is really set-up for recycle businesses that will not pay for consumer drop-offs. I suggest Goodwill or Salvation Army, that do take them, and have the way to get the money back from the state.

We all know what happens when government steps in to solve something. Someone's brother, son or relative makes millions and nothing happens to solve the problem :-)

I guess the motors might be useful, but its a lot of work for very little return

I am able to plastics in my shred. So I get $0.05 per pound. So I gather all printers and throw them in shred.
@thescrapmeister10 ай бұрын
You are lucky... The yards around here will not allow it :-) People have to pay by the pound to get rid of them.

To you it's a waste of time. To me, it's something I enjoy doing. It gives me something to do and it passes the time. I'm an old retired guy and tearing old printers apart is fun to do. :)
