Hello scrappers and planet lovers. In this video I answer a viewers question about small copper bearing motors, and in my opinion, which ones are worth separating for the #2 copper and tin. I will also explain some methods how to separate the metals and also where to commonly find these types of motors.

Yup, love them too, but wanted to stay with smaller motors for this video. Thanks for the comment, stay well.

Anything that I think is too small to waste my time on now I throw in 5-gallon buckets and save. I think it is possible copper could be much higher in 10 years…then maybe worth my time…

Thanks Tin man! it's about time you get a reasonable price on motors, 5 cents a lb didn't make any sense!

Im building a lovely little collection of bright unvarnished fine wire clumps..I always twist the little sections so they stay together. The small flat tuntable motors from microwaves and osilater motors from some fans..nearly always bright unvarnished.A good indicator is softness ,weight and brightness..Im ignoring the gauge thickness stipulation as far as Im concerned its number one bright...I can wait I always put it in sight but out of reach on my truck to tease the scrap yard gypsies 😅🤣😂

13:20 how do you differentiate between copper prongs and brass prongs. From the video, I would have thought those prongs were brass because the colour is yellow...?
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper Жыл бұрын
scratch them. it could have been the lighting that made it look brass, but there are copper ones too. so if you scratch it copper will reveal copper color and brass will reveal gold look

What if you scratch the wire and it has a metallic look but also magnetic? Not aluminum I know but what would that wire be classified under? Also is it steel or?
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper 2 жыл бұрын
Tin coated, put in low grade usually about 90 cents a pound if has copper inside that. If just metallic and all magnetic, tin pile. Again only if no copper inside surrounded by the tin.

At 5:10 motor came out of a power head from a vacuum cleaner, not a fan.

Question. At 13:22 you said you were going to put the two copper ends into your #1. How thick do they have to be, to be considered #1. I have a few Lbs I'm still sorting...Please advise. Thank you. Oh one more question. Ok so on the circuit boards especially in stereo receivers, you have little black plastic 3/4"x1/2" soldered in connectors I guess you would call them, after hitting them with the hammer you end up with a nice piece of copper at least 1/16 thick and sometimes up to 3/16. Are they also #1 Copper?
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper 2 жыл бұрын
If they still have some other metal attached or soldering #2 for the copper ends. They could be thrown into #2 since very small, but I throw into the bucket with my copper pipes. As for the little black connections they would be #2 because of the coating, plastic and soldering.

Right on, appreciate it the quick response once again! One more question then I'll stop bugging you lol 😁 .Ok so after resorting all my copper wire, I have about 2-3 lbs of motor wire approximately 1" long, and there all individual strands.(ALL CLEAN) Do I need to bundle all that up or just leave it in the bottom of my tote? Once again, Thanks, Your the man.! THE TIN MAN

@@locknload9143 from the various videos I’ve watched on this, it is all about whether or not the copper is contaminated in any way. You can bundle all together if absolutely clean of everything and consider it #1.

Out of 7 microwave transformers, 2 were half copper. The rest were aluminum on both sides. The 2 that had copper were copper aluminum. Every washing machine motor has been aluminum windings. I'm bout to stop looking......
