Clear video about the copper business. At some point in the video, you showed "relay boxes" from eboards. How do I recognize them ?
@TinManScrapper3 жыл бұрын
Hi Max, they do come in black and white coatings, sometimes yellow. They are the hard plastic boxes on some circuit boards. I actually have a video entitled “places to find silver. It’s everywhere and it’s free” in that video I show a lot of examples of the relay boxes or silver contact boxes since they have copper and some silver.
@maxcloutier52853 жыл бұрын
@@TinManScrapper I had already seen that video and actually had improved my skills to find the tiny silver contact but had not focussed on the black relay boxes. I will take more care from now on. Dont know if I am allowded to a second question but will try it : all those grey color wires I stripp from electronics that are copper color when filed... are they plated copper ? If yes, plated with which metal ?

Interesting video. You live in southern Ontario and I live south of Fredericton NB. Where do you find bare bright copper? You hv a tote full of it. I would live to find that type of copper mine where I live. Any hints?

Lot of construction in and around my area, amazing how much is thrown out at job sites. This is several years of collecting as well. I also had a friend who just did a major house Reno and I got all of his wire and stripped it. But as said, add up over time.

Can you link the video on what to strip in your vids? Also that would be a very popular video to put in your description.

I have a few terminals that are Tin plated copper. If you scratch it the Tin comes off . Will this be considered copper in the scrapped yard? I did find the datasheet of this part it says Tin and copper Cu and Sn. Thanks

I would say probably #2 copper.

Hi Daniel. I actually did a video on that about 4 weeks ago called “how to identify and sort your scrap aluminum”
@metaldetectingwiththesilva83113 жыл бұрын
Hi Tin man :) Below are the prices in US dollars at my local yard. Notice the power cords are 25%. In your view how should I approach them? Split them down (remove outer shell or strip totally for number 2 copper which is at $3.28 per pound? Thanks for your help! The prices and percentages are right of their website. Oh I just brought a stripper like yours. I've always wanted one :) Copper Wire $2.15 #1 Copper Wire (75%) $1.23 #2 Copper Wire (75%) $2.54 THHN Wire $2.07 Romex Wire $1.05 Cat5/6, Ethernet (50%) $0.63 Mixed Computer Wire (35%) $0.42 LG Wire / Power Cords (25%) $1.40 Aluminum BX $0.33 Insulated Steel BX $0.20 Christmas Wire / Lights
@TinManScrapper3 жыл бұрын
First off, I am amazed at Romex....here in Canada people throw out spools of it. It depends on the extension chord.....some are really mushy when squeezing....so less copper. Those ones I would leave as is. The thicker ones, I would remove outer coating at least. It is hard to get inner coating off since copper wire is very thin, so may not be worth . I found with my stripper hard to get coating off thin wire....but your stripper might be easier. Your prices, even in US dollars are low in my opinion. Have you called other scrapyards in the area?
@TinManScrapper3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if stripper like mine, very hard to strip really thin wire so leave coating on then.

2 QUESTIONS : What are the best sources of copper scrap? and what are the most dangerous item to scrap?
@TinManScrapper3 жыл бұрын
Most dangerous I would say is crt and microwaves because of capacitors. Most dangerous for environment are the ones with older compressors. Best for me has been copper wire, but appliances all have copper motor...just check to make sure copper not aluminum. I also like dehumidifier and scrapper units because of copper pipe, copper/aluminum radiators and copper in compressors. Even vacuum cleaners are good source of copper though since copper motor and 40% copper wire
