I always seen those crosses in the doors, and just assumed it was a religious symbol. Well thank you I never thought of a rifle port. Never to old to learn.....lol

Very nice modeling. Lots of great ideas included in your video, love the woodland scenic water on the styrene glass to simulate old wavy glass. Really nice detailing..Thanks for sharing your ideas and skills.

I have used diluted Micro Kristal Klear to obtain a similar effect. The result is maybe a bit more "dusty", but that's also wanted for industrial building.

Watching this reminded me that for awhile there Amazon was selling what they called Vermont Cabins. They were 1:1 scale prefabricated do it yourself kits. Each had a footprint of 16 x 20 feet. So this cabin in O scale is not too bad for a frontier cabin.

Dave, Now you're gonna need a small barn for your horse. So the wolves won't have a horse feast. A small corral will fit in well.

Dave, Great artistry. About 20-25 years ago I attempted an Adirondack version of a log cabin for a N.Y. Regional MRxR Challenge. The challenge was to celebrate the French & Indian era Fort William Henry's anniversary. So our color scheme needed to be more browns, reds, & green as we were not modeling the Desert Southwest. So I know firsthand the magic you pulled out of your hat. Great job. Now a request. I noticed in the completion shot a rock formation of an overhanging oval stone. I recall out in the OLD Disneyland they had a Frontierland ride through the Painted Desert. Along with animatronics it had rock formations of balancing boulders. IF you ever again do an episode of rocks and beautiful buttes try, as you might, animating them? Also, should you do more rock formations, try sculpting the faces of friends or icons into the ROCK FACES? Ya' get the pun??? I'll keep watching and learning from you. Jim

Great modelling. It is always nice to see other way of working. The balsa foam seems to be better for doing stones than the more used foam board with a side of paper removed (I never found the type which can be removed easily!).
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
Balsa foam is MUCH easier to use

Thank you for this. Exactly what I needed to get me started building my first O Scale building. D'y'know what helped a lot? Just having you call out a few dimensions, and then also seeing the foam core parts laid out on your cutting mat with it's 1" ruled grid. This really helped me understand how large all the pieces were and helped me mark out everything in proper proportion. I got most of the mock up done and assembled with drafting tape before it got too cold out in the shop. I wonder how dead lilac shoots would work for "logs"...they already have weathered bark on them...

Great work Dave, another truly beautiful model to add to the layout. I was wondering while you were building though, where did you pick up those techniques like making the bark on the logs?
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
I first discovered this technique several years ago when modeling Big Thunder Saloon. I needed a way to add bark texture to the log walls so decided to stipple on some acrylic modeling paste. It worked so well I've used the technique several more times over the years.

I've seen some plans for compact cabins that used natural/ native limbs and branches for the porch railings. I wonder if that would work for some scale model cabins?
@RattleSnakeScaleModeler3 жыл бұрын
great content as always Sir,.. Dave I was curious, what camera do you use for when you do your channel stuff ?
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Much of this episode was shot on an older iPad that I don't think I'll be using again. The resolution is not that great. I usually shoot with my good old iPhone.
@johnbusby2153 жыл бұрын
How big is the gun cross in the door and at what height is it centered at Awesome building.
@ThunderMesaStudio3 жыл бұрын
About 24" x 24". The center is about 5' up from the bottom.
