Morning Tony, well I've got up to a really wet dull day, but at least I'm assured it will dry later. What a lovely building that is going to look fantastic on the platform. People talk about signal box almost in passing, but what a feat of engineering they were, with all the leavers that enabled the signalman to change the points, and what a skillfull person he was. If he didn't get it right then it would be disastrous for the smooth running of a railway. You once again have recreated this bit of engineering accurately. That's very generous of you to give away on of your precious models and I would love to support you and enter your competition. So you keep yourself safe and see you on the next one Eddy xx Mr Pull Leaver is the signalman. You counted the bricks. And the doors are opening on opposite sides. Somebody is going to be very lucky? Regards Eddy xx

Making two signal boxes almost identical takes not just skill but a lot of accuracy, the vent on top shows your eye for detail Tony. The windows are so neat , I can't see as much as a glue mark. One of the best shows on KZbin, the more I watch the the more your accuracy shows through(I'm no good at making an angled roof). I'm working on a tiny 3ft layout and I'm gonna use your techniques to have go at making one but it would be rude not to enter as it's really a bit of artwork. Right 1 Mr Pulleever 2 you counted the bricks on the old photo and converted that to mm in relation to the rest if the box. 3 the first lower door handle was on the right, the second on the left. Thanks for sharing your modelling with us and congrats on the 5000 subscribers, always something to learn. All the best , Darren 😃 👍

You really have cracked the glazing and bannister rail detail, so neat and precise, the profile details make it too. Excellent KZbin video Tony. Even if I don't win, I will certainly copy your build and make one myself. Not sure if it will be as good as yours but will be fun all the same. Now for my very public entry to your competition. 1) Mr Pull Lever; 2) By counting the number of bricks allowed you to measure the chimney size; 3) The notable difference in the 2 models is the door handle of the basement door. On one model the handle is on the left, while the other is on the right as you look at it. If you can make more scratch builds to your channel, then you have my vote every time. Thoroughly enjoyed your station build and prior to that the colliery build. All the best and stay safe, Mike

Good evening Tony, hope you continue to be well. That was another interesting video, though I suspect that by not showing a lot of the measuring and cutting you've given a completely false impression of the time you spent on these! The result is, as usual, impressive. As to your extremely generous competition: The signalman is Mr Pullever. You worked out the chimney dimensions by counting bricks on the photograph using a magnifying glass. The difference between the two signal boxes is that one has the handle of the lower door on the left, so hinges at the right, whilst the other has that handle at the right and hinges on the left (as do both upper doors).

Hi Tony, congratulations on 5000 subscribers, much deserved and a magnificent effort mate! I’ve ummed and ahhhed about entering because I model in N gauge but, I thought I’d enter though as although it couldn’t go on my layout it would take pride of place on one of my shelves in the cabin and I’d possibly make a diorama out of it. Answers are as follows Mr Pullever signalman’s name Chimney dimensions by counting the bricks in the picture Handles round different ways on the doors is the difference Great stuff Tony i may attempt a signal box as my first scratch build as a practice before I build Exehaven Harbour station inspired by your efforts for South Shields. Hope you’re all well cheers Tony, John

Hi Tony another great video so the signalman got a really original name how did you come up with Mr Poollever then you turned into a bean counter and started counting bricks and then you couldn’t decide if the doors would open to the right or to the left,is this lockdown getting to you I think you should go and get a cup of tea then have a lei down keep safe and be nice to you’re other half
@TONYNORTHEASTERN3 жыл бұрын
Hi David. the signalman name was a since. well he only does a couple jobs in the signal box. Pullevers or ring bells. i could have called him ting tong.....i think you are right about the lockdown getting to me. lol. see you next week. all the best Tony

Wouldn't the corner of the landing have a post from the ground to support it? It looks as if the more portly Welsh relief signalman, Dai Version, might collapse it.

Did you do technical drawing at school by any chance. I was impressed by your drawing of the signal box.
@TONYNORTHEASTERN3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan. i did do technical drawing at school as it happens. they don't do that at school now. its all done on cad on a computer. you know when look at all those black n white movie's and you see 20 -30 blokes in drawing offices. designing and building those wondering areoplane's and steam engines. and anything in engineering, its sad. and all that is gone now. bygone era............cheer's Tony

Hi John. thank you for commenting. i have been building kits for as long as i can remember. but scratch building is still new to me. what i mean by new. is its only in the last couple couple of years i have been bashing and scratching my builds. i am still finding my way. but i am using all the tricks of the trade to work things out. and hopefully the finished model should look something like the photo. now if i can do that then i think i have achieved something. enough of my waffling.......thank you for entering the competition and good luck.....thanks again for commenting. stay safe Tony

Hi Tony - Answers are 1- Mr Pullever, 2,- You counted the bricks from the photo you had. 3- One door has handle on the left side of the door the other on the right. Now questions from me 1- What card do you use for your buildings 2- Tips for cutting out windows/ doors to get sharp edges. The boxes look excellent Tony and the one for South Sheilds will look good on the platform. Stay Safe.....................Cheers Kev
@TONYNORTHEASTERN3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev. many thanks for commenting, and entering the competition.1) the card i use is white model Kraft card, you can get it on ebay. 2) Nice sharp scalpel. and when cutting always keep the blade verticle. and use a straight edge like a rule for a guide. to keep the line of the cut nice and straight. for cutting out doors and windows. when ever you are stating a build. you must have the doors and windows first. mark out the doors and windows cut to line. depending on thickness of card. hope this helps.........all the best Tony

Tony- I have jumped in and have decided to build a model of the bowls club club house which I have the basic plans to so I am ok with dimensions . I have taken note of your above advice but what do you use to make windows and doors ? is it plastic card/strip ? Hope you dont mind me asking as I might need to quiz you as I progress !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Kev
@TONYNORTHEASTERN3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev. The doors you can get ready made. but you have to search for them. Ebay is a good place to start. for the windows if the photo shows a particular style. then it may also pay to look for them. but for your basic windows. you could make them out of 1.5 square plastic strip for the frame. and 1mm square for the windows themselves. good luck with the build...........Tony
