Scratching a Camera Sensor with a Scalpel: Can It Survive?

The sensor has multiple layers of filter on it, even if it is damaged, the filter can be replaced with not much difficulty

indeed it's the IR cut filter that is in front of it. Heard alot of people saying they was afraid to damage the sensor when cleaning it. That seams like a hard thing to do since it dint scratch with a razor and moderate pressure.

I felt a deep pain when you put the scalpel against the sensor. After watching the video I still don't want to touch it.

hehe.. it's a deep rooted fear, i worked with digital backs back in the day, they requered cleaning on a regular basis

I think the filter on a sensor is about the same hardness as glass. Since glass is harder than metal the scalpel wont scratch. Dirt, sand, dibris, even dust can be hard enough to scratch a sensor though so its still important to be careful with a swab. Always blow as much dibris off the sensor before swabbing. And only swab with one side one time. I learned my lesson yesterday when i scratched my sensor 😭

I managed to scratch mine, no blades used, just air blower and cleaning swabs...

heard some people say so, planing to look into this further and actually try scratch the sensor with a swab. The camera I use for this is not functional. Do you have any idea why or how I got scratched? Did you use a new vacuum sealed swab?

@@Kim_Alexander vacuum sealed from aliexpress, also rubbed it dry with a k&f swab by mistake BUT I have no ideea when the scratch actually happened..

@@somtamthai9429 I tested but cold not see anything even at F22...The "good" thing with a scratch is that it still lets light pass through unlike dirt on the sensor.
