I think scream 4 would do better today if it was released, back in 2011 it was a stretch to think social media would have the power and influence to make a nobody famous and rich beyond anyone's avarice, but today we know different, so Jill's motive works far better IMO that's why I really enjoyed this movie on re watch years later.

I think Scream 4 was a little ahead of its time. Now the whole idea of remaking, and rebooting has gone way beyond the horror genre. So many different properties have been revived since Scream 4 came out. That makes this film better in retrospect for me. I think I like it more than any other sequel in the franchise. Also, this is probably the first film since the original where the conversations with the killer over the phone are funny, and clever. Didn't really get that in Scream 2, or 3 imo.
@Blast22245 жыл бұрын
I EXTREMELY agree. Look at what Blumhouse did with Halloween and to a lesser extent Happy Death Day. SCREAM 4 came before the burnout of horror remakes; Before MTV came out with Teen Wolf, before The Mist, The Walking Dead, AHS, etc. It came before the zombie craze. It came before the apocalypse craze. It came before the nostalgia craze.

Scream 4 was actually supposed to start a new trilogy of sequels that focused on Jill getting away with the killings in part 4. Sidney was gonna survive but the scene with Jill finding out that she survived was supposed to be the final scene. Kirby’s death was purposely left open as you don’t see her die because she was gonna be the new final girl along with Sidney. I thought that would have been amazingly different and unique. But someone in the studio bitched out and added that last hospital scene and that ruined it a bit. Just made it like every other horror film.

My only gripes with this movie is that we're supposed to believe that 2 killers who are 5 feet tall and weigh roughly 115lbs soaking wet can overpower and kill so many people. And to add insult to injury ghostface himself actually looks 6 feet tall as in all previous movies. You literally have scenes where he towers in height over his victims, then right before Jill takes off the mask you can actually see how shorter she is than Sydney. If Jill had teamed up with a tall, physically powerful guy, letting him do all the dirty work, I could have bought it but Charlie was just as puny in size as she was. Hence why Scream 2 was more believable. I'm also surprised no one ever mentions the glaring lack of parents in this movie. Are they the Peanuts gang? Why are Olivia and Kirby home alone, free to go wherever they want when the entire world knows there's a killing spree going on?? Who the hell are these parents that leave their kids in empty houses in such a crisis? The secret barn party was a good fix around this loophole but then they just head to Kirby's house completely free of adult supervision? Minor nitpicks though because beyond that it was a great addition to the franchise. ''Don't fuck with the original'' is probably the best line uttered in a franchise that's already full of great quips.

Scream 4 is afraid of itself. That's what makes it a weak sequel. It's a film thats afraid to take itself seriously because of the critical outcome of scream 3. The first two films had that perfect balance of suspense and slight humor.
@Blast22245 жыл бұрын
For me, what worked with Scream 4 was Sidney's character, the kills, and Jill's "handling" of being the killer. Jill wasn't afraid to fuck herself up to get what she wanted: She scratched herself, rammed her head through pictures, slammed through glass tables, and fucking stabbed herself with a dirty knife in the shoulder. She wanted this shit to succeed and handled taking shit like a pro even more than Ms. Loomis (who had a psychotic fit before Cotton shot her). What DIDN'T work for me was how Scream 4 was too on-the-nose with its meta-reflection. Characters who were meant to be "remakes" of Billy, Randy, Tatum just became bodies waiting to be killed. They weren't their own characters and you didn't feel anything when they died. The only person I feel bad for is Olivia because she was butchered solely for the point of shock value and her looks.

I loved that Dewey and Gale are married are married in this one. I loved that Sidney became an author of a self help book and Gale was still struggling what to write since she wrote books based on Sidney's life. I loved the false ending with Emma Roberts and Sidney at Kirby's and the real ending at the hospital between the two. I'm proud to own all four of these movies in my video library. The tacked on hospital ending was done by the studio. Kevin Williamson hasn’t released what his outline for the new trilogy would have been, but the script ends with the ending before the hospital, added with Dewey yelling “We got a survivor!” after they put Jill in the ambulance. There was speculation it was either Sid or Kirby. But the film originally ended with the media interviews in front of the hospital, leading Scream 5 (5cream?) would have focused on Jill getting away with it but Sidney knows the truth.
@re92466 жыл бұрын
Also, I noticed the weird color grain to the film when I saw it in the theatres and remembered thinking it was odd. Maybe Craven’s commentary on the “over saturated” reboot genre or just oddly digitally enhanced, since even the knife is CGI in this one. But it always throws me off. There are color corrected (to the best of their abilities) versions with some deleted scenes added in that make it look less like Vaseline was smeared on the lens.

The only part about the movie I didn’t like was that Jill was the killer when in the previous film her brother was ghostface. It was a let down since it was already done. I felt Kirby was a more worthy opponent and would have been too obvious but which is why no one one really exspect it by the end when she gets stabbed by Rory she was faking her death like in scream 1 how billy loomis does. Since Jill’s motive was a more agreeable one there could be a more variety of people so I think it would make more since to the plot in my opinion. The movie is great tho despite the finale “ surprise “ .

Last film directed by Wes Craven before he died from brain cancer on August 30, 2015, at the age of seventy-six. Since Emma Roberts was the shortest cast member of the group of teens (standing at 5’2) she had to wear high heeled boots that gave her three extra inches to stand as tall as everyone else (the boots can actually be seen near the end of the film). She also had to wear hair extensions since her hair was relatively short before production of the film. Has the shortest killers in the series with Emma Roberts only 5’2 and Rory Culkin only 5’6 With four installments, this landmarks the Scream franchise as being one of the only horror franchises to have both its main characters as well as its director (Wes Craven) return for all of its sequels. This is the only movie in the Scream franchise to end in a hospital. The first "Scream" movie not to feature the song "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. The role of Deputy Perkins is played by Anthony Anderson. Anderson appeared in several of the "Scary Movie" sequels. Scary Movie (2000) was a spoof of the "Scream" films. Emma Roberts first horror film debut. Emma Roberts shares the same last name as her character in the film "Jill Roberts". For the first time in the franchise, a CGI-added knife was used because director Wes Craven wanted to avoid using prop knives that are rubber, cardboard, and collapsible. The role of Deputy Perkins is played by Anthony Anderson. Anderson appeared in several of the "Scary Movie" sequels. Scary Movie (2000) was a spoof of the "Scream" films. Emma Roberts auditioned for the film mostly out of nostalgia, as she grew up watching the Scream movies (though she is scared of horror films in real life). She also wanted to step out of her comfort zone and play against type, having mainly done family films prior. This is the only one of the 4 scream movies where the police don't arrest a suspect.

I have to disagree. Scream 2 didn't do a good job hiding who the killers were. I mean it was kind of a blindside with Mrs. Loomis but that was really because she wasn't in the movie long and the audience has no way of making that connection. Also you knew Mickey was a killer the moment he says "why would anyone go back in that house anyway." But I do agree this film is the best at hiding the killers identity.

Unpopular opinion... Scream 4 is my favorite. As much as I absolutely adore the first movie I enjoy the 4th one just as slim of a margin possible more

I noticed the effect that was used on the movie two it looks like vasaleen smeered over the lense but I like it kinda because it looks unique and modern.

I saw a "fan edit" of Scream 4 with lots of the deleted scenes put back in and it worked so much better. Wish I still had a copy of that one.

I noticed that thing about the unnatural look of the movie, i tought it was just the quality too, but i saw it on tv a few days a go and it became more evident is a little annoying I dont mind the stabbing they improve that part a bit here is just they kill so fast some character, and they have many great new characters but the others are never given much to do Still pretty good movie i like it better now than scream 2 that got worse in each view, scream 4 got better and better

Haha intro already got me laughing. Can't wait to see the final review. Great Job. And i somewhat agree but disagree about torture porn. Yes it was kind of big after saw. However there were far more remakes coming out. And it wasn't even like they were remakes for the better either they were all just bad for the most part. Definitely agree this movie had the best villain reveal. They were actually in the movie compared to 2 and 3. Plus they weren't over the top like billy and stu making it obvious.

I thought Scream 4 was easily the best sequel. My only gripe is the Scooby-Doo ending. At some point in the scripting phase, the plan was to have Jill successfully kill Sidney and get away with it, setting up a return in Scream 5. I think that would have been shocking and very modern meta. Still a good movie though.

I think scream 4 would have worked better if they would have set up kirby to be your next final girl in the franchise
