That scene with Dewey in the bar definitely should have stayed. I love how Dewey easily disarms Vince, but let’s him go as soon as he drops the knife because he doesn’t want to hurt him - then gets punched in the face for showing mercy. That scene did a great job highlighting how good of a person Dewey was. The scene with Judy was also necessary, I love that she called him “sheriff” when asking for his help.

It's also about pacing. The scene after these is where Sam meets Dewey in the trailer. There's this big dramatic reveal with a bunch of establishing shots in his trailer before we finally see the man himself. These scenes are great to see. But the version we got definitely felt more fulfilling and "worth the wait" so to speak.

@@malikmartin8755 I haven't seen anyone blame her for Dewey's death it was his fault for going back and walking up to the killer to shoot. People don't like her because her acting is pretty bad. This is only like her second film so I give her pass but not the casting crew for casting someone so inexperienced in the lead role. Her emotional talks with his sister involved her being mostly straight faced. She couldn't nail the emotional part of her character. She was the worst actress in the cast of great actors and actresses. She was the only weak link when it came to acting so the fact that she was the main lead made her scenes rough to get through sometimes.

They never should’ve made Dewey a drunk, honestly. Even though knowing David and Courteney were no longer together I get why they separated the characters which I don’t mind, but they still could’ve made Dewey still doing well for himself. According to the movie, Gale got a new show in New York, Dewey left and went with her, Dewey couldn’t handle New York so he left Gale in the middle of the night (something he very clearly regrets doing). When Dewey came back to Woodsboro without Gale, his depression got in the way and turned into bad drinking habits, which then lead to him being asked to step down.
