In Germany/Switzerland we have another very famous case like that where someone was cancelled by the public and especially the media even though he was innocent. Jörg Kachelmann was a television weather moderator, had a talkshow for a few years etc. until his ex lover accused him of severe rape. Later turns out in court that she lied and made it all up (she was hurt and wanted revenge after finding out that she was only one of his side chicks) but his career, financial situation, mental health etc. had already been destroyed.
