The guy riding the unfaired bike down the drive was Korki Balington with his Kawasaki KR500 a square four very much like the racing Suzuki RG500, the unique disc valve 4 cylinder one in the on track footage was a Konig and it truly was an original design which was originally designed for marine use at the Konig factory in Berlin, this is another reminder that Germany was ahead of the rest of the world with early two stroke development. The Fortuna liveried bike is a Honda NSR500 as is the Repsol one.
@barebonesmc9 ай бұрын
You have to Give Kim Newcombe the credit he deserves, without him the Konig would never have entered the Motorcycle world. and yes, with the NSR's, but the Fortuna bike is a big bang NSR whereas the Repsol is the original "Unrideable" NSR 🙂 🙂 have a great day mate, all the best to you and yours

Your right about Kim Newcombe . A great rider and engineer. He was a Kiwi (New Zealander) . Concerning the Kawasaki 500/4. Ther rider may have been Greg Hansford, an Aussie (Australian'') he did most of the work on the 500/4 and 750/4:sadly he was injured and returned to Oz and raced cars. Man don't those 2 strokes scream 😊😊😊

@lesgillard9859 ай бұрын
@@barebonesmc I'm not sure Yvon.Du Hamle had any thing to do with the development of the Kawasski 500/4 or the 750/4. He rode in the AMA circuit in the USA. He would have rode the 250 and the 750 3 cylinder. The 500/4;was for the old 500 TT world championship. And the 750/4 was being developed for the FIA (?) F750, which was European. Both bikes would not be usefully in USA. I believe Kawasaki was going to do what Yamaha did with the F700/750', develop it then make 200 copied for homoligation. Sadly Kawasaki withdrew from Europe a few years later 😢 We never saw the Yamaha F750 really challenged by the Suzuki or Kawasaki 750 triples.

You sure do like a challenge lol. What's a good sounding 2 stroke would have to be the hardest I think since it's so subjective and dependent on your personal history with them, plus a lot of people hate the sound of them altogether. I grew up around motocross, short circuit, speedway and road racing 2 strokes before they had ANY sort of muffling on the expansion chambers, hell, even my own Bultaco had an unsilenced expansion chamber that sounded like a thousand loud painful whip cracks a second. I absolutely will credit that very quick 4 cylinder one with sounding awesome, not that I can guess what bike it was. Right with you with that 2 stroke racing oil smell. I rarely do smell it but occasionally someone will use it in one of the giant scale model planes in the precision aerobatics comps and I immediately get a strong nostalgia feeling that feels great. They sometimes use these flat 4 cylinder 2 strokes in them too. I forget the brand but the ones around last time I was involved were 200cc 4 cylinders that did sound fantastic till near full throttle, they only lost out to the sound of the prop slapping the air above that. Really enjoyable seeing some good old 2 strokes doing what they do best, thank you!

@@barebonesmc Thanks mate, a very merry Xmas to you and yours too. "A flat 4 from a Konig", well no wonder I couldn't pick it. Ya trickeded me, I was under the impression I should have known lol. I do know it was a nice sound and obviously a real rocket ship. A flat four 2STROKE marine engine? Let me guess, a jet ski engine? I can't imagine any boat bigger running a screamer of a 2 stroke but, never say never either.

Probably heading out on one of the RD350 engined R5B or RD400 as they're my slop riders and the roads are quite muddy. Good to watch, my memories of 2 strokes are from when I had a gt750 Suzuki triple and my mate had a yam 350 lc. Second hand, of course, in the mid 80’s . The lc was good but my gt sounded great with all-speed 3 into 3 expansion chambers on it. I seized it up doing around 100, after thrashing it a bit, middle pot gone, just pulled the clutch in and coasted to a stop. It was not a big deal to get the middle pot re-honed and a new piston and rings in. The Suzuki’s were problematic with overheating on the middle pot.
