This video was taken at the Temora Aviation Museum’s April 2024 Aircraft Showcase on 06 April 2024.
The English Electric Canberra is an all-metal, semi-monocoque construction with a canti-levered wing and a wooden vertical stabilizer. It is a successor to the wartime de Havilland Mosquito fast bomber. When the Canberra entered service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) as the first operator in 1951, it became the service's first jet-powered bomber. The type was also licence-produced in Australia by Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) and in the US by Martin as the B-57 Canberra.
This specific aircraft (Military S/N WJ680, current rego VH-ZSQ) entered service in December 1955 with 551 Wing RAF Bomber Command based at Gutersloh, Germany. In 1967, it was converted by British Aerospace to TT.18 standard, carrying the target-towing system designed by Rushton. It performed its last flight in RAF service with 100 Squadron on 18 December 1991. It is now with Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Heritage Squadron (No 100 Squadron).

Whittle considered both types of compressor in his engines, centrifugal was simply easier to make work first

That is not a RAAF aircraft. It is a ex-RAF Canberra marked up to look like an Australian Canberra.

I lived in Toowoomba in the early 1950's and can remember these flying overhead. The wing was so easy to distinguish for a 5 year old boy.

Lovely video, I just wish commentators would leave the talking to when the aircraft isn't still flying past making some lovely noise.

The much more heat tolerant metal alloys needed for axial flow jet engines were very expensive or not available at all in WW2 which is why Whittle stuck with his first design where the combustion happens outside the compressor and thus they were reasonably durable. In contrast the Germans used the inferior metals (which was all they had) in spite of their unsuitability because the ME262 design demanded axial flow shape and placement on the wings which resulted in the engines only lasting - in the worst case - as little as one mission and being very unreliable. However this also gave rise to a whole host of radical improvements - like swept back wings - never seen before, and resulted in a legendary aircraft. If the British Air Ministry had given Whittle credence and realised what they had Britain could have had the Jet in time for the Battle Of Britain and the war would have been a lot shorter.

That is not a 2 SQN aircraft. It is a ex-RAF Canberra marked up to look like an Australian Canberra. Note the aerials on the top of the fuselage and tail fin and no long wires.
