I saw Screaming Lord Sutch around 1974 or '75. It was at the Bijou theater, in Hollywood, about 20 feet west of Grauman's Chinese Theater. The place only sat about 30 people and played old movies, exclusively. I went there a bunch of times and saw some great movies. Sutch performed by himself, singing and playing an electric guitar, between showings of "Don't Knock the Rock" and "Rock Around the Clock." He sang 50's songs and jumped around like Tinker Bell on speed.

This is great! I've never heard of Screaming Lord Sutch until this video, but I bet he would have been a great show to see!

Pity there's a bit missing at the start - but congrats on finding THIS. I saw it on a "soundie" video jukebox in '63. I then SAW the great man twice, in the '70s. First at the Wembley Rock 'N' Roll concert, then at "Flashback '67" - where he nearly burned the hotel down! The man was a god.

The early 60s were great. I helped set up the mikes etc. for Sutch and the boys once at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge. Back then they used to pull fake guts out of one of the musicians with a saw on a table on stage. They were doing Alice Cooper stuff many years before Cooper! Now the song reminds me a lot of Monster Mash by the great Gary Paxton! Their promo picture was hilarious - Sutch and the band posed with caveman skins on, and each guy with one foot on top of a crocodile!

I saw him live on stage, he was one of the greatest showmen ever. Not a great singer, but a load of charisma.

Not Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar.... This is from an interview with him... Who do you think was the first fuzz solo? RB-I've been on the scene for so long. Therefore, I knew pretty well who played om what and when and so on. The first fuzz-box ever used on a guitar for a recorded solo was used by the Rip Chords about 1957. The first fuzz-box solo ever played in England was by a guy named Bernie Watson, on a record in 1960 called "Jack the Ripper," by Sreaming Lord Sutch. It was a B side.

there's a short story, "dead air" by barbara hambley, about lord sutch being the ripper reincarnate. for years i thought that screaming lord sutch was a fictitous character. the jovial nature of this video, makes it almost a companion-piece for that story. all that remains is a clip by the baker street irregulars i sppose...

I guess I don't keep track enough of Corporate Madison Ave Fluff bands like some stupid groupie. He was nominated for grammies? He must be great, after all, so was Clay Aikins & Garth Brookes etc, etc. The Shite Wipes is by far the weakest most boring live band ever ! Not to mention PRETENTIOUS ! In 10 years they will have the musical relevance of Ugly Kid Joe. Just close your eyes & think of England mate !
