Pippen is adorable. I have chaos maker too. Lol. I think it's cool you made a trip to Oregon. I was born in John Day, Oregon and lived there until I was 4.5 years old. I remember playing in the streams but not much else. I love seeing all the different rocks, minerals etc in your videos. Thanks for sharing. ♥️

Please do make a video of you faceting some of these Beauties!! Can’t wait‼️‼️
@largent45 Жыл бұрын
That was disappointing but you came out with a bunch of workable material! And there is next year! Which means you will have to come back to Oregon! Yay! But the video was awesome and the stones that you found were amazing! I'm glad you got the experience of hunting for sunstones; it's a far cry from the giant agates you are used to finding! But so worth it! Thanks Theo! I absolutely love your cat btw! Adorable!❤

Yeah we were pretty disappointed but we still got some great material out of it! Im looking forward to get going on faceting them. Im gonna have to get a rundown from karen on faceting the colored ones before im brave enough to touch them though. And we will definitely be coming back to Oregon! Alexis was super bummed to miss out on the coast so we will be coming back in the spring most likely😁 hoping in april at some point!

Yay, you have a Pippin! (Yes, I know this is a rock channel but, as a cat person I can't resist acknowledging the kitty.)

Oh pippin has to be acknowledged😂 he is the best, still a baby so he bounces between snuggle bug and razor blade tornado pretty much constantly😂

Enjoyed watching your Eclipse Fiasco... I mean Sunstone trip. At least you folks were able to make the most of the obstacles that presented themselves. Cheers and looking forward to what you do with the stones!

I’m glad you made it out there. Neat part of our country and few make it there. I have a kid in Wa., one in Or, and one in Az. I asked several jewelers at Tucson gem show why sunstone folks ignore Schiller. They seemed more concerned with color. Lots of stones are faceted, so it’s doable, and you can do anything…I’m convinced. After years of looking I found a Schiller ring. It is not faceted, but I love it. Hub and I went to the public site…..you had the right idea to go to a mine. I have gotten gravel bags from Specter that were chock full of stones….fun to go through with the grandkid. She’s 13 , in Wa. And I’m trying to get her hooked😊. Thanks.

Beautiful sunstones, a nice haul! So nice of Kyle to gift you that beauty he found, a kind friend! Looking forward to seeing your future creations with these! Maybe your kitty, “ Pipen Chaos Kellison “, thought the bowl was full of sunstone kibble! He’s so cute!

I do too! I had only had very limited experience with them, mostly really small clears and a few yellows, but after seeing the colored ones, the bigger clears and yellows, and the schillers, i definitely have a much larger appreciation of them! I can not wait to start faceting them! Thanks so much for watching!😄

The ones with Chatoyancy look like they would make great stones like Labradorite So they would be great as faceted or domed stones.. Stunning finds.. Sorry you only got one chance to find them..

I gotta ask, what is a belt run? Also I could see the "Shiller" but could you explain some more? How is that different from what Labradorite does and the chatoyance of tiger eye? It looked like a fun day, thanks for sharing with us.
@TheoKellison Жыл бұрын
Certainly! Schiller in sunstones is a result of suspended copper particles, whereas the color play in labradorite is a result of light defracting off of very thin stacked layers; though labradorite and sunstones both are forms of feldspar, the schiller effect is very different. And the belt run is one of the services that the mine offers. So the pile we got for example, on the belt run they take about six times as much material, feed it through a water powered hopper, and you pick out the sunstones as they roll by on the belt. We were originally hoping to do a belt run each so we would have likely gotten WAY more material out of it, but they were so busy from the nearby eclipse traffic that they had already sold out on belt runs.

Is Shiller" the same thing as "Chatoyancy"?? (A level of Flash.)
