Fun fact: in the original novel (yes, there was a book before the first cartoon film, it was written by Dodie Smith in the 1950s), it was very clearly established that Cruella's birth name was, in fact, Cruella De Vil, and that she came from a long line of De Vils. Honestly, I really like the Cruella film. It was enjoyable and one of my favorites. That is if you detach it from the original movie. Don't get me wrong, 101 Dalmatians is a classic. But Cruella deVil is not a character that should be redeemed. The character in the movie felt entirely different from the puppy skinner in the original movie. It doesn't give cruella any reason to hurt Dalmatians and I feel sorry that Estelle had to turn into Cruella because it makes the film seem so much sillier. It tries to redeem Cruella, but it comes up with the most basic way of doing it. If Cruella had a differently named protagonist, who turned into a different character, it could have turned out so much better than what it is. Because being connected to the original makes the plot kind of fall apart.

Does every villain need a cliched, "sympathetic" origin story? Like, they took Maleficent- the only Disney villain so evil she summoned the "demons of Hell" - and made her wishy washy while pissing all over the good fairies (the main heroes of the original). Now they've done the same thing with Cruella... stop. Just stop.

Next I want a pre-prequel explaining the sympathetic origin of Emma Thompson's character.
@DrDiabolical0003 жыл бұрын
I mean this comment makes no sense. Cz Maleficent was not exactly a villian in the movie. You are mixing the character from the book and the movie. The character in the movie is completely different. She is more of an anti-Hero than a villian while in the books or the fairly tales, she was a complete villian.
@sbird86753 жыл бұрын
@@DrDiabolical000 I am not mixing up the book and the movie. I am comparing the original animated Disney classic film with the live action film. In the original animated movie, Maleficent was a baby killing villain. She did not have a single sympathetic element to her character- and that was what made her great! The live action version completely changed what was once one of Disney's most fearsome villains, while vilifying most of the heroes. It's frustrating for fans of the classic Disney films.
