This series was so good, there is one scene in it that cemented batman as my favorite superhero. The Joker kidnaps one of batmans ladies and takes her to a warehouse where she is tied up and on a conveyor belt pulling into a big crushing machine. Batman stands between the joker and his exit, so joker gives him an ultimatum. "If you try to stop me she will die, if you save her I get away." So Batman smiles, and reaches out of frame to hit a switch and shut the power off. It was hilarious, and I loved the idea that that it was resolved by just paying attention to your surroundings and being smart.

Hands-down, the best, most nuanced, and ACCURATE depiction of The Dark Knight, outside of the comics themselves. The Paul Dini team should give lectures on their understanding of the Batman character. THEY GET IT. They understand WHY this character has been a cultural icon for 80 years. And quite right, it didn't 'dumb down' things to 'children's level.' It assumed kids' intelligence and their ability to deal with the darker story elements which sometimes came up. Great characters, great storytelling, great SHOW.

The genius behind this quote shows the issue with the DC movies. No matter how good or bad they are people arent going to enjoy them because they arent the tone that most want. Everyone expects the dc films to be just like marvels but when they arent the same tone or theme everyone just says they’re bad. DC cant win with a darker/gritty tone if they made the best movie ever because it’s not a bright and colorful comedy superhero movie like most people want.

Notes on BTAS: 1. This show was really magical. 2. They used an orchestra for every episode. 3. Those guns? They called them "dark deco weapons" in the script to be able to slide them past the censors. 4. "Dark deco" is what they called the visual style of Gotham, which the comics then adapted FROM the show. 5. Adam West makes a guest appearance on the show as the washed up tv superhero. 6. Harley Q originated from this show. 7. The reason why Batman could launch so many bad guys off of rooftops is because they added an "after groan", which is a shot of the villain on the ground and groaning, showing he wasnt dead. (censors wanted it)

Anton A. - That's fine (except the last part), but it still stands that, since the animated series, whenever I've read any Batman comics, the voices from the animated series are the voices I associate with the characters. Not Christian Bale. Not Heath Ledger. Not Michael Caine. Not Liam Neeson. None of that. I know I'm nowhere near alone in that.

All my childhood. I watched it on French TV, everyday after school, eating bread with chocolate spread on it. I don't think I missed any episode. Just having all these images dropped within the few minutes of this trailer brought so many emotions and memories. Thank you Screen Junkies. We didn't have Mark Hamill's voice of course, but the French overvoicing of the cartoon was excellent too.

I did the same, the hour was convenient (for once French TV did something right), PLUS I saved almost all of them on VHS tapes. Yeah, kid me managed to learn how to program the hour on a f***ing VHS tape recorder. That's how good this show was and how much I wanted to watch it. Used to watch them often, until VHS went out of style. But it's ok, now I have the internet, I always know where to find them.

@Jared Dowty It's a good film, and probably better than any of animated direct-to-video DC movies I've seen since then (Return of the Joker and Under the Red Hood probably came closest). But I have to disagree that it's better than the series; there are plenty of episodes of the animated series that I'd prefer to rewatch. (For example, I think many of the Joker/Harley-centric episodes of TAS are more entertaining than their appearances in Mask of the Phantasm.)
