Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z

I attended a full day workshop with Michael recently when he was in Australia and it was one of the best storytelling/writing workshop I've ever done. His 6 stage structure chart has proven to be a wonderful tool to my plotting and writing. I found it an illuminating guide complimenting my inspiration and enhancing pace. Thanks Michael... love your work

To answer the question posted, I used the structure Michael so perfectly outlined here, but to me all this happens organically. I know my beginning, my ending and the obstacles happen organically. I am as surprised as I want my readers to be surprised. Excellent interview. Love Michael, he's a genius. Thanks guys!

I’ve been so lost with my screenplay for my final exam but this has opened my story up in so many ways! Obviously my teacher has taught me about structure but never as clearly as Mr. Hauge!

Looking at this now I can see how some stories use this. I'm currently watching a T.V show called Killing Eve a lot of what you ave said I can see in this format.

The 6-stage structure chart just recently helped me out of a bind in a script I'm helping re-write! It got me thinking about the story in a different way than I had been and was able to really push me through the plot and develop richer characters.

He’s absolutely brilliant just a few days ago I was hard on my self trying to figure out how to write or what to write about mainly struggling how to structure things out after when you have a idea of what the story is gonna be about and within 2 days of me watching this man speak I’ve learned so much everything is pretty much straight forward and makes sense

interestingly enough I had those elements in my story and in my head before I even read or heard about what a screenplay is and how story works. I find that a little intriguing. +Film Courage

This is awesome, I'm learning to refine my scripts. So I just applied Michael's approach to analyzing the movie, The Astronaut's Wife starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron. Michael is spot on and this his approach makes sense.

Yep so basically The Hero's Journey and every Hollywood movie ever made. Still useful to see other interpretations and see what - if any - is different about their interpretation.

does a five minute, intense and highly detail monologue then Michael says, "....and that's pretty much it." Got it. Easy.

At first I thought this guys principles were great, but after listening for a while, all he is actually saying is, something happens, then something else happens, then the character has to make a choice, then something happens.

Aren't the new opportunity and goal (change of plans) often the same? For example, Luke in Star Wars says he wants to become a Jedi while also agreeing to go to Alderaan & help the rebellion. Just need some clarification on the difference between the two.

First, you'll need to learn to properly write (spell & explain yourself). Then, you'll need to identify a protagonist / a hero amongst that group of people.

Formula of mass produced dullness? This and other very similar formulas undoubtedly work and are widely used, including many truely amazing great stories. So this comment is not to condemn the formula itself, but such formulas can be also defenitely used badly. Sometimes it really feel SOOOO dull, when you just see the formula running behind the story: Ok, now we're in this stage, next that will happen. Ok, here it comes. Then next will come the major setback. And now it comes. And now next the hero makes the final push and wins, though it looks impossible. Ok, it happen just as expected. Same with typical formula of emotions story is supposed to evoke at different parts. Now we're going to feel this emotion, here it comes... All these formulas CAN work, but only when the creators have a Vision. Without the Vision (or interesting/unique philosophical conflict etc.), it just becomes mass produced formula stories, which our franchise filled movie industry is producing non-stop. Am I too cynical, but when watching this, I kept thinking of that mass produced stuff..? Probably because I recently saw this from Film Courage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2PJYZ-fnNyGa9U (Chris Gore criticising Hollywood film industry methods)
