One thing I must admire about this movie - it does not even pretend that the chariot race is the main thing for which people are watching this movie. This is why this version actually opens with the charior race and then, so to speak, explains what led there.

Toby speaks about the 1959 Ben Hur being a never ending story, a very long film. Although it is indeed about an hour longer than the 2016 film, the latter actually felt a lot longer to me due to some serious pacing issues it has. Also, the 1959 film is a masterpiece, which cannot be said of the newer version (although it has some good moments).

Jack and Toby have great chemistry in the movie. In my opinion there is the gay subtext, like in the original movie.
