Holy shit, I just realized that the kid should have been carrying the milk crate around to draw attention away from Jodie's tallness and make her less self conscious. That would have been so much less weird and would actually be a kinda cute reveal for when they got together. But instead, they had him use it as a stepladder.

my problem is WHY was jodi just about best friends with a guy who has been asking her out every day for YEARS without just taking her no for an answer?? they're literally not a compelling couple because he's a creep and she's just plain unlikable. the ending has no stakes or emotion attached to it because we don't give a shit about these characters pls
@kikiimikii3 жыл бұрын
I mean your opinion tho. Like i felt for the story and having insecurities you sometimes project them on others. So yk she hated beibg tall, having a short boyfriend would definitely "enhance" her tallness, as ridiculous as it sounds.
@coainc3 жыл бұрын
@@kikiimikii oh totally!! i definitely understand her insecurities throughout the movie and why she wouldn’t want a short boyfriend. it’s also totally just my opinion that jodi is unlikable, but i definitely feel like they wrote her to be quite selfish (”you think your life is hard?? i wear mens size 13 nikes”) but then never really resolved any of her own shortcomings or even acknowledged them existing so it felt like the character didn’t really evolve in any way. her speech at the end didn’t convince me that she had actually become any less insecure either, so it just personally made me feel like jodi just didn’t have a character arc at all. jack on the other hand i feel like is just not a good character to root for by default since they wrote him as a desperate creep who doesn’t know what no means and who’s been carrying around a milk crate since he met jodi for the specific purpose of kissing her some day even though she’s told him it’s never going to happen, which is just gross. that’s why i think that them getting together at the end was poorly done, because due to all that i don’t want to see jack get what he wants, which is jodi, and jodi being okay with his behaviour. but that is definitely just my take on it and anyone who thinks differently is allowed to do so, even if i don’t think jack’s actions should be seen as romantic by anybody lmao

As 5’11” girl, same. I’ve never really found it life ruining like the way they portrayed it in the movie no one gives that much of a shit about your height in high school they’re focused on their own issues and drama. Other than the occasional “wow you’re tall” comment people didn’t bat an eye at me for my height because it doesn’t fucking matter that much this movie just turned it into a personality trait.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT- I think the movie would've worked out better as an animation? Hence how her height is just 6'1 as this premise, could've exaggerated with her being more taller. That's just part of it, I know the rest of the movie still needs some work😩

6'5 is the average for tall people, I would say. She's short for a tall person. I'm 6'5 and nobody made fun of me for being tall. Went to school with a girl that was my height and nobody cared. I hate this movie
@psychicsocial3 жыл бұрын
The whole premise made no sense to me. Why is her height so important? And why is she lacking for boys her height or boys who have a thing for tall women (who aren't her creepy friend who won't take no for an answer) If anything people should criticize her for being annoying and judgmental, not for her height.
@KC-nv6qf3 жыл бұрын
I was about to say “well you’re a dude, that’s clearly different”. But also tbf, that’s just one girl’s experience and you cant possibly know if she was being made fun of when you’re not around (cuz you’re obviously not her). I’m just saying this b/c I know a really tall girl who actually got bullied for it. She watched the movie and said “it actually happens”. So all I’m saying is that everyone has their own experience.
@kingashant63233 жыл бұрын
@@KC-nv6qf it 100% does happen. I just find it hard to believe that these people are still using "how's the weather up there" as an insult and she's legitimately bothered by it. Like, they're using the same elementary school jokes on a daily basis. She also had a best friend who was willing to stand up FOR her their entire time in school. If anything, they would have been bullying her friend. That would be a much better movie. Also, the girl I went to school with was pretty popular. That doesn't mean she never got bullied but it wouldn't have been this detrimental to her mental health because we never had free time between classes to harass our fellow students. That was longer than I expected

As a 6 ft tall female, I can say that while this movie was well over the top, it still had some elements right. There are subtle things that make you feel out of place, like I’m sure everyone deals with. Things like not being able to find clothes that fit right, having guys tell you that you’re not cute like other girls because you’re not small like them and feeling like you stick out because the first thing most people say when meeting you is something to the extent of “wow; you’re tall!” While it’s obviously not the end of the world and everyone has insecurities growing up, my insecurity was my height because it’s the thing that made me stand out. It’s taken me years to feel comfortable enough with myself to actually appreciate the thing that makes me different. All that said, this movie was a joke.
@madladiesscientists68943 жыл бұрын
Okay, never noticed this before, but does anyone else think it's strange at the beginning of the movie that all the books where the two teens sit, the back drop of it, they're all color coded. Like did the school librarian just come in and go, "Huh, you know what I'd like to do? Sort all these books not alphabetically, or through the school libraries system which is what helps them find the book in the first place, but rather I'm going to make it like an Easter egg hunt and make them look for it, because by golly I like my color coding. It'll be fine, just like a game, a game called my OCD."
@YasmineSDJ3 жыл бұрын
I don't really feel much sympathy for the short dude (i truly dont remember his name). Like he's supposed to be FRIENDS with Jody, not a "hookup" or a "date" or something. So yeah she's completely in her right to expect him to be there for her in a new relationship and stuff. What's odd abt it is 1) that she keeps him around when he clearly wants to be more than friends and 2) that HE is still around since she clearly was rejecting him this ENTIRE time. So we either are left to assume that he wasn't being all that serious abt his flirting which is why they're both okay with being around each other, or that they both don't care abt the hitting on her/rejecting him dynamic, which well, good for them. But she's definitely not the bad guy (in this instance), he's clearly set up to be an actual friend to Jody and she's treating him exactly like that. The last thing she's doing is leading him on, he's more than aware of how she feels.

Honestly as a tall girl myself i enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Did they dramatize it by a lot? Absolutely but its a teen rom com so like its supposed to make it more severe than it is. (Thats just rom coms in a nutshell) Abiut the insults, i did hear "hows the weather uo there" in a Mobbing way a few times and i cant even count how many times I heard that i should play Basketball... im a lil shorter than jodi. Nobody cares if a boy is tall. They love it, why wouldnt they. But as a girl that was always taller than everybody in my class until like 8th grade i feel for her. As i said its not my fav movie and while i think they went overboard with the tallhate and dramatized it but it was quite refreshing to see something that resenated with me.
