Why in the world does everyone keep acting like if Green Bay trades there first round pick and other capital for a player like Garrett. Gute cant hit on a 1st rounder to save his life. Getting Garrett would be equivalent to Reggie white. Go get him, players like this don’t become available everyday

With the 23rd pick in the NFL draft the Green Bay Packers select....... 3-4 years of Myles Garrett. Yeah sounds goodnuff to me. This reminds me of the Reggie White scenario just the Eagles didnt want draft capital in return. If anything, thats advantageous to this Packers team being its not a matter of him going to the highest contract bidder but the one most willing to part with draft capital. Will Gutey go against his generally conservative ways?

Reggie was a free agent. That made the signing so much more simple. This is far more complicated. One edge rusher does not get you to the SB. You have to add alot more pieces. We aren't even close to being a serious contender. We got wiped by ALL the good teams.

@PackADayPodcast8 сағат бұрын
When you trade a player, any prorated signing bonuses immediately count against your salary cap unless it is after June 1st. So in the case of Myles Garrett - he has $36.2 million in prorated bonuses that would all accelerate to the Browns current salary cap if he was traded. Now his cap number if he's on the team this season is $19.7 million - so the difference is only $16.5 million but the Browns would take on that additional $16.5 million in salary cap hit if they traded him right now - and they don't have that money - therefore they would need to find a way to cut over $16.5 million from their salary cap before they could actually trade Myles Garrett.

Stupid Question: Can the Browns and Garrett negotiate a restructure, and then trade him? Something where it makes it easier to trade him, and then he signs another new contract with his new team? Is that even possible? If Garrett really does just want out, the Browns can maximize the capitol they get from him, Garret is happy because he will then actually get traded-- hopefully to the Packers-- and both parties split amicably. I doubt this is possible with NFL rules and whatnot, but I wanted to ask.
@PackADayPodcast8 сағат бұрын
Theoretically yes, but in this scenario it doesn't help anything. You can't change the prorated signing bonuses that are the main issue here and his base salary is already as low as it can go - so in this case there's no way to make that work.
@jimmyd1020008 сағат бұрын
No, the Browns cannot do anything to lesson the cap hit on Garrett if they trade him. The cap hits are almost entirely from previous years bonuses that have already been paid but were prorated to hit later. You can push cap out to future years, but you always end up paying it eventually.

For the Green Bay Packers and Brian Gutekunst, making a phone call to ask about Myles Garrett’s asking price should be a no-brainer. Giving Myles Garrett a new deal would eat up a large portion of the team’s available salary cap source, but if they found a way to acquire him, it would give them one of the NFL’s best edge rushers to pair with Rashan Gary. The Green Bay Packers may be unwilling to give up their 1st-round draft pick in 2025 , but their other draft picks and even future draft picks in 2026 could be on the table. An elite pass-rusher could do wonders for the Green Bay Packers’ defense. It’s unlikely to play out for a number of reasons, but it’s hard not to think about what this defense could do with a player this caliber of getting after the opposing quarterback. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛
