Restoration Rusty Sledgehammer

Hello folks! I found this sledgehammer in my friend's garage when we was cleaning it. After sometime I decided to restore it and also to record my first video on KZbin (this is my old wish lol)
So, firstly i started to make electrolysis (salt + soda) to remove all rust from hammerhead. After that I used angle grinder for polishing it and the last step was a making new wood handle for my hammer.
And the most delicious moment in this videos is a test!

Feet were all over the place while swinging. Stable base and slow controlled swings. Let the hammers weight and gravity do most of the work. Add a little mustard towards the end of the swing. Good job on the hammer. I love restoring old tools. Haven't used electrolysis, but have done vinegar water solution soak on really rusty heads. Usually a wire wheel, sandpaper and elbow grease make for a better result. Keeps the character of the tool.

Purpose of electrolysis, when right after you resurface it with an angle grinder? Seen you do this every video and can't really understand why.

Hello, thank you for attention. I can explain, sir. Via electrolysis can remove all rusty from little holes and spot on stuff. And after I use grinding process due I don't want to lose more metal.

A restoration in my opinion (and who really cares) ought to leave as much of the original piece as found only doing the things necessary to return it to a usable state. You created a new hammer from an old sledge. Leaving all the old marks gives the hammer character and tells the story of how it was used.

I could restore that with a hand file and sand paper - impossible to some is easy to others I guess.

Кувалда не расклинивается клином! А только насаживается на деревянную конусную ручку! И волокна в ручке должны быть расположены вертикально по отношению к бойку кувалды!👎

абсолютно неверная и опасная в последующим насадка кувалды, а рукоять я обычно делаю с комля берёзы, чем кручёней тем лучше

First. Not impossible. Did the same thing a few years back. Needed a big hammer, bought one at a garage sale, handle was shot. Cleaned it up and put a new handle on it. Used it.Second; I think your handle is short and a little too delacate for the hammer head. Sorry I did not give you a thumbs up.
