will the heater core water circuit of a digital AC remain open after turning the car off?
@tk4270 Жыл бұрын
The only way to properly flush heater core is take heater core pipes off at the bulkhead and use a steady stream of water through a garden hose through the inlet and outlet, then blow all the water out from heater core and pipes leading in and out of it. There would still be old coolant left in the engine water jacket and associated coolant pipes. In my opinion, this video shows a partial coolant drain.

You just turn on the engine with radiator cap off
@seanshaw436 Жыл бұрын
@@kyreesanders9422 I believe this to be true. I have a new heater core. My heart is low or weak. I shop vac out coolant and topped up a new batch. Now I see there is air lock so best thing to do is drain and squeeze the hose. I suspect a leak but the coolant wasn't seen dripping on anything. Try just squeezing the hose with the cap off and see what happens.
@HumbleBearcat10 ай бұрын
I just replaced the coolant & the ATF together 2 days ago. Both were fairly easy to do. BTW, I did not squeeze the hose to burp the system but just start the engine and the coolant would fill into different places in the system and just top off the coolant to the max line and that's it.
@thedude47952 жыл бұрын
I can provide my debriefing: Dissasembly was pretty much as shown, but the clamp for the coolant hose, some sadist at VW had put it on with the clamp-flaps facing away from me! I could not easily squeeze the clamp. I nonetheless attempted to position the tool behind the pipe and on the 20th attempt it worked! Now came removing the hose. One tip I can provide is to actually loosen the mouth of the pipe all the way around with something thin but not pointy just to loosen the years of it sticking to the plastic. It pulls off much easier this way. And when it came time to top up the coolant, I never got the fan spinning. I let the engine run for a long time, letting it air bubbles, but it mustve been a cool evening because it never came close to 90C (200F). I went for a drive and stopped several times to top up the coolant, and will continue doing so until it stabilizes, have added about 2.25-ish liters til now, which is about how much came out. Fun job! Thanks for filming it so well!

Does the car's front need to be jacked up for the whole process? Or just until your remove the undertray and disconnect the radiator hose? Would the flow be easier if the car wasn't jacked up?
@screwsnutsandbolts Жыл бұрын
No it doesn't necessarily need to be jacked up but it makes it easier to access with the car raised. You could probably drop it down as you're draining the fluid but I don't think a few degrees would make too much difference.

It depends on the coolant you buy. Some of them, like in this video, are already mixed to the proper ratio. Others are concentrated and you have to dilute them with water.

Does this completely flush the radiator?
@screwsnutsandbolts3 ай бұрын
It just drains the fluid in the radiator and most of the fluid in the engine block. If you want to completely flush the system, use the following steps: 1 Remove the lower radiator hose and catch the draining coolant in a bucket. 2 Remove the top radiator hose and flush the system out with a normal hose. 3 Continue until the water runs clear out of the bottom of the engine.

How about the coolant that is still in the Block?
@boomerguy99352 жыл бұрын
It will still be there but it is OK if you change your coolant at regular 30K mile intervals. Just be sure to use exactly the same spec as what is in there. Otherwise, you can seriously damage the cooling system and your engine. If you want a complete flush, I suggest you have a professional mechanic do it with the proper equipment which is what I did when I bought my used Rabbit. I wanted to start out with 100% new. After that, 30K interval changes are good enough. I've been using this method for many decades in all of my vehicles with no problem, regardless of country of origin Just be sure to use the CORRECT SPEC COOLANT!!!!!! DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT TYPES TOGETHER!!!!
