Scriabin was a mystic and wrote a lot of music expressing that. I read somewhere that he actually had a color score to go along with this piece. Try his "Poem of Fire". Loved watching your reaction to this.

The color score was for Prometheus: The Poem of Fire. I've seen pages from the score with the color organ line at the bottom. And even though Scriabin wrote some notes about what the notations on that color organ line meant, no one really knows how to interpret his notes about the color organ line. The performances that use color are interesting, but they're all completely different. Each one is somebody's best guess--an INFORMED guess--but a guess all the same. Just in general, Scriabin's directions on his scores are so evocative that they leave a LOT of room for the musician's interpretation. I've played several of his piano pieces and looked at many, many others. So I know that there's room for the musician to move. What amazes me is that so many of Scriabin's fans seem "married" to a particular pianist as the DEFINITIVE Scriabin performer, and nobody else ever comes close. What I like is to hear what different musicians bring forward in Scriabin's pieces. There is so much there for the performer to work with.

There was supposed to be a special instrument that would flash the colors according to his score. "Piano lumiere" or some such. Shades of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.@@construct3

@@alanfoster6589 Yep, and the color organ never got created. Scriabin's early death was a real loss. I'm sure he would have put modern technology to good use.

Such unique and spectacular music. Scriabin died at the age of...43. Just when he was really getting going. From a small infection on his face that turned septic. Possibly a shaving cut. The irony....
