For those who don't understand, Granny doesn't like "colt cuddlers" because they can't have children. They explain that two mares can have foals, however, through magic. She discarded him because he couldn't have any foals. Even when he was with the female buffalo, he couldn't have a foal with her because she was a different species.

This fic is so well written, Granny Smith is really someone to hate in this fic, and that takes alot to hate a villain. Because everyone likes a well written villain. Bravo Scribbs

For those who are a little confused with this story - Granny Smith disapproves of "Colt cuddlers" since they basically can't have children. She isn't a homophobe since she approves with "filly foolers" which includes the relationship between applejack and rainbowdash since via magic, they can have children. Also, brayburn (applejack's cousin from appleloosa) is in a relationship with little strong heart, a buffalo. Since she isn't a pony, they won't be able to reproduce. Granny Smith disapproves of the relationship and has told the family to reject them (photo wall = banished) Bad apple, banished son of Granny (who has been secretly in contact with applejack) - comes back to play with honour - a game of cards with the following bet: if granny wins - bad apple will leave and never talk to applejack every again. If bad apple wins - granny has to accept brayburn's relationship with little strong heart and allow her to become apart of the apple family (which goes against her views)

So, in all - granny wants the family to grow. Colt cuddlers + Interspecies relationships = no children. Filly foolers + magic = children. She only disapproves of relationships that won't lead to offspring. Btw, scribble's story telling is awesome! Great work!

A very well-handled bit of story-telling that hits very close to home for me and mine. I've heard too damned many people make this exact excuse for their homophobia or for someone else's. Very well done. VERY well

I'm pretty late to the commenting here, but I just came upon this one recently, and I really loved it. I got the feeling that it was more of a 'Wall Of Shame' thing going on with the photo's Granny Smith had put up. Her son was up there for supporting Colt Cuddlers (who can't have foals) Braeburn married a buffalo, bringing the race factor into it. Therefore his pic went up too. By the temptation of him losing meant he would avoid the family forever, Bad Apple played for the picture coming down, symbolising that the family was now 'allowed' (by Granny Smith's words) to accept the buffalo bride into the family. (Even though AJ and Big Mac probably already did). By this, he forced Granny Smith into breaking with 'tradition' (also known as her pride) and having to accept that the days she was in now were more progressive and open than the days she grew up in. Just because a couple cannot produce young doesn't make them excusable targets for bigotry. Granny Smith had to choke down her disgust and accept them, because she played for her pride and lost - therefore having to honour her word to Bad Apple. Good on you, Bad Apple 😊

i don't think granny is a homophobe I think she may be racist, her problem at first was that her son was a colt cuddler, but then he decided to love a buffalo, a female buffalo. I think by the end of this story it was more an issue with race than homosexuality.

I've also considered since the time I originally wrote that comment, that maybe granny is biased o sot of like a double standard, she hates colt cuddlers, but is ok with filly foolers. I'm not completely dismissing my first assumption I'm adding to it with this comeent. in our society women are usually subject to the double standad, in this world males would be subject to it.

@@puppyhowler Apple jack isn't first born and has a sister and brother along with having a valuable spot as being one of the best workers on the sweet Apple acres, the element of honesty who has assisted in saving the world multiple times, and is a beloved friend of the princess of friendship. It wouldn't be worth throwing her out and at least she was dating another pony.

Her thing is like... Can't reproduce? Then you failed. Two stallions can't have a baby. Different species can't have a baby. Two mares however can have a baby thanks to magic. That's the big difference for Granny Smith,having children and keep the family bloodline going.
