This is exactly what l loved about sabbath, back in my youth, their musical journey within their greatest songs, where every turn was an ever more interesting avenue to travel down of a trip you never wanted to end, and she caught that! It was never a tired old return to a refrain of the same old same old, but just an extension beyond the norm, and their hooks, to die for! Way before anybody else's time!

I think its fairly obvious that the song is sung from the point of view of an unborn child who "Destroyed the empty spaces" by filling up an empty womb [you destroy an empty space by filling it]. the child has gone through many reincarnations (I've lived a thousand times), as will all people (Don't believe the life you have will be the only one). the line (When little worlds collide I'm trapped inside my embryonic cell) means the 'collision' of the sperm and egg, at which point the soul forgets its past life (And flashing memories are cast into the never ending well). the lines (Curtain of the future falls, the secret stays unknown) simply mean that the soul forgets the previous life with each new life. the baby tells us that it is necessary to die so that we can move on to our next life (You have to let your body sleep to let your soul live on), and advises us at the very end of the song to love each other, to live our lives fully, and look forward to our next life. the song has excellent lyrics, really quite positive and inspirational, and even more impressive having come from a heavy metal band. This is my favorite Sabbath song for many of the reasons you listed. I think that this has always been considered fine but deep album cut and it is amazing for me to see it revisited by so many deep dive reaction vloggers. A lot of people do not realize that many Sabbath songs had some very empathetic things to say about control, where we put the power, and how we choose which paths to take.

3:40 is where this song goes south for me. The first guitar melody was so good & smooth. It just pulls you in, & you zone out on it. I could listen to it all day. They should have kept it going throughout the whole song, but then they go & change it, & then change it again, & they lose me. It loses it's feel. You don't want a melody like that, that's so catchy & addictive, to end halfway through the song. It becomes two different songs in one. I hate when good songs go bad.

See, you have it easy. I was a Motown kid who got turned on to the metal, basically by curiosity. Back in the day OZ's were about $10 bucks. You go to the park and meet up with some of the fellas, smoke a couple of sticks, then go home and put on some Sabbath. After the first album. They were putting out albums almost every 60 to 90 days. A dude couldn’t wait long enough for that net album to drop. Now this song right here a great song, but not as great as the greatest hits. You checked out the ending. That last section when I heard was weird AF, but hey it was Sabbath, not a big deal. This was a good song. It's funny how you describe Sabbath as funky. That's cool if they funky to you. They got me because of the different music the playing. I was in to orchestral stuff in the youth, so I had a lot of wider exposure, but I never heard anything like Sabbath, and Zeppelin, they was just mind blowing music players. I lived in a neighborhood were there were musicians and when word got out on Sabbath and Zeppelin, the group turned on the metal. Life was MF good. We was some happy people. Yo, you hear that latest album by Sabbath, no, yeah I got that, it's smoking you gots to hear it. A week later dude is like, yeah man, that album was the joint. Sabbath, like Zeppelin never put out a bad album. You had to expect these dudes was evolving, so you liable to hear something totally unheard of from them on their album so best be ready for that joyous interlude. I like how you look like we really enjoying the music. People, most brown skinned folks, didn’t ride on heavy metal, lots of really great black music at the time. Me I listened a lot to the Temptations, 4 Tops, the O’Jays, Earth, Wind, and Fire and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and a lot of single R&B artist really good playing at the time. I feel very fortunate I was very wealthy with the music when I was young, I could sing, I liked to imitate different singers and their styles that was fun for me. Nobody ever told me I could make money singing. Anyway, thanks for letting me watch you groove on some tunes, you OK, See you around.
@meteoriter16473 жыл бұрын
Daryl Lemans, interesting, funny you say that brown...though metal imo was invented by Jimi man! And Chuck Berry and and and, the list goes pretty far back ... I ran around w the same kind of guys as you, very accepting bunch, can't say major negative impact, perhaps lost some brain cells in the process, in fact they formed my brain to Black Sabbath & Iron Maiden! Keep rockin'

This song is primarily about the sperm that didn't make the egg, but it ends with the notion that we're all re-incarnated. The closing lyric says it all, "Looking back I've lived and learned but now I'm wondering, here I wait and only guess what this NEXT LIFE will bring."
