Even though they are now quite old, and refer to an old version of Scribus, Kevin's series of Scribus videos are still just about the clearest and the best place to start for someone who knows very little about it, and can get you going very quickly. It would be lovely if he was able to come back and make videos covering later versions, but we can be very grateful for these, and that they are still available. Thank you Kevin.

That's very kind of you - so few people take the time to say thank you. It really is appreciated. I no longer use Scribus, so won't be making any more. I actually created these for my classes in school. I'm so pleased that they have been useful to many others. ;-)

Kevin Pugh's tutorials will get you going in Scribus immediately and have you using it effortlessly very quickly. I had gone round and round with the program's documentation and found myself exactly where I had started. After having completed the tutorials, I have been able to make sense of a lot of the software documentation. Scribus is a wonderful program, and to think it's open source. Kevin's excellent work will enable the beginner to get up to speed using this wonderful tool. My sincere thanks to Kevin and my recommendation to others who may have been at sea with Scribus to start with these tutorials. W. A Stapp

I often use KZbin for quick tutorials for new software I'm experimenting with and I have to say that this video tutorial series is one of the best I've seen. Really, truly AWESOME! Thanks so much for planning it out so thoughtfully. I created a brochure that highlights some of the professional work I do and am actually getting hired for some freelance work because of it. It's been a lifesaver. Really can't thank you enough for creating these!

Hi Kevin, I am amazingly grateful for your instructional videos! This will be enough to indie publish some of my stories, and even POD a book down the line. Since I am usually all thumbs with software, being able to process the information visually as well as aurally is very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

Great starters lesson. As I was watching this I realised just how similar the functions are to Adobe InDesign as that's what I used in a course to create a booklet and I'm wanting to create a poetry book with illustrations so this sounds like the perfect set of lessons to learn that from. I've never ever used Scribus before so this is a nice easy to follow video for a complete beginner.

Spot colors are solid pigmented colors as opposed to process colors, which are CMYK. RGB colors are screen colors. The first two are pigmented, and viewed from reflected light. The latter is projected, as with an LCD computer monitor.

Hi Kevin, i'm trying to follow the instructions in your vid, but when i try to change the grid spacing to 30mm and 6mm, Scribus keeps defaulting to to 85.039 mm and 17.008 mm. If i use the up/down arrows, it will leave a decimal place (i.e. 30.039 mm and 6.008 mm). Any ideas why it is doing this?

Oops...Spot Colors are a single ink, designated e.g. as "PMS 185". Process Colors are composed of varying percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black. These are both press terms. The reason to convert from Spot to Process is to save money when using traditional printing. NOTHING to do w RGB Digital printing throws out some of these issues, however it's best to check with your service bureau for their set up needs. RGB is for screens, mobile devices, TV, etc. Other than that, thanks for the vid!

Thanks for your work. I guess you've made a mistake when explaining spot colors and process colors. They are related with commercial printing and aren't related with RGB. Regards,

@erikdailly8 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely WRONG about spot colors and process colors! The former are specific INK colors like Pantone (17-1463 is a bright red-orange, for instance). Process color are CMYK: cyan, magenta, yellow and black (k='key'), used to produce all possible colors in a four step printing process, also using INK. This is called subtractive color mixing. RGB on the other hand, is mixing red, green and blue LIGHT, and is NOT used in printing, but in screen display. It's called additive color mixing. I don't know if I can trust you on other things you'll tell me in this tutorial...
