Well done kids...!! I liked their sportsmanship. They both supported and encouraged each other until last moment. Something rare to find. They displayed a Mature attitude.

Yeah, I thought so too. Nihar's a terrific speller, and I'm sure that he'd realized that it was four drachmas. That reminded me a lot of 'Akeelah and the Bee.'

Makes you wonder how they might try to change it up to see if they can get a solo winner at the spelling bee, or if we are truly in a new era that one speller doesn't want to win without the other speller when it gets down to the final 2.

When will the full video be available? I recorded the preliminaries earlier in the day, but didn't realize the finals had moved from ESPN2 to ESPN and missed the full competition with the final 10 spellers. I was out of town.

I wish the kid in the white shirt would've won. The other kid was shaking his head when he got one wrong, clapping in his face, and didn't smack him high 5 at the end. Even holding the trophy at the end was rude and selfish. Hopefully his parents had a conversation with him regarding his behavior.

Some ask how come so many Indian kids win the Spelling Bee. First, Americans generally suck at spelling, second, just look at some of those Indian names, especially last names They have a beginning and an end yes, yet they're miles apart. I mean if they can spell and pronounce them forward and back, and they do, what's going to rattle them or 'em' if you so choose? NADA!Why don't you try spelling and/or pronouncing one, just one. You know all the names have a meaning too.So, there's my take on it. Besides huge support from family, yes, including parents these kids are used to cramming.It's just the nature of the culture.

There are 25 championship words, which are unbelievable difficult. If the champions exhaust all of them, they both win.

This should be called a MEMORY competition instead of a spelling contest! Great they memorized how to spell words they will never use in their lifetimes.
@TheMelonStorm8 жыл бұрын
If they memorized the words they wouldn't need any additional information to spell the word ;) It's impossible to remember every word in the dictionary anyway :)
@IArif-jp5cy8 жыл бұрын
its not just memorizing the words. they have the lean the Morphology of different languages, grammar and many other things. Thant is the reason they ask for the definition and the origin of the word. This is actually a very important skill to have.
@ReverendHogwash8 жыл бұрын
From what I was told they are all given a list of potential words ahead of time - its not the entire dictionary. If I was told incorrectly so be it, but that does not change the fact they likely never use these words again the rest of their lives.
@c.gwakamole23507 жыл бұрын
ah but that is only the school, districts, and regional ones, not nationals you see ( I am in spelling bee btw)
@RicAbapo7 жыл бұрын
Reverend Hogwash You're wrong. The musical words that were used are words we use from time to time in the 'classical music world', in fact, the word Berceuse is very common. So if one of them decides to pursue music, then you're wrong already. Besides, if you watch the performance of Nihar, he knew several words already, meaning he could use those words whenever he wants to and the opportunity to use them arrives. Don't be too negative. :)
