Bruhat Soma, a seventh grader from St. Petersburg, Florida, took the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee crown in just the second-ever “spell-off” in the competition’s history. Soma says after the win, he’s looking forward to a summer of rest and basketball practice.

This was a great interview. Markie was taken aback by Bruhat's reply! I have learnt from my South Asian friends that what Bruhat said is apparently a very Hindu value - to take care of the less fortunate by being thankful for all the great things that he has in his life, especially a loving family. We Americans are certainly fortunate to have immigrants like Bruhat's parents who will make our great nation even stronger and a beacon of hope for the less fortunate of the world.
