This is DEEP. I do wonder why after taking all those masterclasses from every Epic Writer on the Masterclass platform, and knowing that I will probably suck to start, AND Knowing that I would make a great...ahh, that's it! I have been locking myself up in the fact that *I have to be great a writer* to write. No one starts being great...I guess I just need to start the reps and build my writer's body. Thanks for posting this John. BTW, I never watch podcast videos, so grateful I did this one.

We all start life as a blabbering idiot. It's only natural that it takes a TON of time and practice to become good at something.

I’m a vfx artist, I write for my own personal projects. But more importantly - All the stuff you’re talking about here is directly applicable to vfx. I’m planning to share this with my colleagues at work. Thanks

Thank you John, Chris, and Dennis for the highly insightful podcasts I've heard in a long time. Sometimes you forget how subjective the writing process (and human process, for that matter), can be. I personally needed to hear a lot of this as I tend to beat myself up over a lot for these very reasons. Anyway, I couldn't have found this at a better time. Thanks guys.

My Favorite Year was a great movie - agree with that shoutout! And yes, of course, trial lawyers like screenwriters struggle with depression, crises of confidence, even procrastination. This podcast was completely absorbing, and for me really important to hear. Thank you!!!

I've listened to this a couple times. I think some of it is now LA-centric/outdated. Saying "some people are going to have to accept they aren't going to be screenwriters" is awfully discouraging, vague, and opposite of the overall message. Anyone can become a writer, screenwriter - there is nothing more to it than doing the work. Paid work may or may not come, so make your own film as an indie filmmaker outside of the silly Hollywood system. Try not to create this whole idea of what it is to be a writer, other than putting your stories into fruition. Success beyond that is extra.

I have mixed feelings about this. A screenwriter who "left the industry" to help "crazy people" (his words) is now back writing books? Including one called Panic Attack - that's a way to move through writer's block - just write about your patients....
