Had this on 12" and CD maxi in the UK . Possibly the slickest produced pop song of all time. Even the bass slide at the beginning sounds perfectly clean . The CD still sounds better than nearly any other recording I own in terms of audio quality. Those late 80s loose fitting panel suits are sadly missed. That look was slick from 1988 right into the early 90s when i tried to rock it at university. And failed.

One of the most unique band that I've known. It was originally a punk band with heavily left leaning songs. But in 1980s it evolves into a pop band

I actually liked both versions of the band, even when a band seems to completely change there is still that certain essence that stays.

"The Tupamaros got a platinum card." I think the average FM radio listener most likely missed Gartside's clever lyrics when this song was originally dropped. Don't blame them; it was so fresh that, on first listen, you could miss all those cleaver lines that Green wrote. He was so witty with slipping those cleaver lyrics into his pop songs, always keeping a bit of his edgy art-punk roots. Amazing song that will change your entire day around. Love it.

For the sonics, I thank Mr Arif Mardin for that! This song is so hooky and catchy, I just love Scritti Politti!!
@ivanantunovic83359 ай бұрын
While they audibly built this on the premise of "Cupid & Psyche 85", Arif Mardin was nowhere near producing "Provision"... And anyway, the "Arif Mardin" sonics are essentially all MKII Scritti. Or rather, Gamson alone. As for "C+P '85". Mardin was mainly the choice of producer helping them shape things up. But it was the trio who worked out the sonics.

Scientifically proven to be one of the catchiest tunes of all time. Decent line-up in the studio with Roger Troutman, Marcus Miller, Fonzi Thornton... (sadly no Roger on stage). I may still have a crush on the brunette backup singer. And Morris Day clearly could send an invoice for those stage moves.

Green Gartside was on a roll here - following the success of Cupid & Psyche ‘85 featuring “A Perfect Way” - you know you’re doing something right if legendary jazz musician Miles Davis covers your song and puts it on his album Tutu a year later!

Sorry, I've got to go out and return some video tapes."

Still one of my favorite SP songs! But this awful video doesn't do anything to add to the legacy of the tune - just makes me sad I never could have heard Green and an ensemble like this in person on stage or seen the original song actually being performed in the studio.

I read that they didn’t perform live back in the days because of Greens’ stage fright. I do see live vids now on KZbin from a few years ago😍😍😍

I like this video. Green is so stylin’ and looks great in this video. If it’s true he had stage fright, he seems like a natural here. Janet Jackson is a shy person in general. But, is a different animal on stage. Green could’ve done more of this back then.
