Scrubs has always been one of my favorite sitcoms, great emotional depth, a healthy blend of one-liners/visual gags/surreal comedy that makes it one of the most uniquely funny shows, but also a show with a lot of heart...Sacred Heart... Great video man, keep it up and you'll go far!

Absolutely! I don't think I can count the amount of times Scrubs caught me off guard emotionally but then sent me into a fit of laughter not long after. It really was something special. (Also, smooth pun) Glad you liked it and thanks for the comment!

I practiced pediatrics for 20 years, and Scrubs came along early in my career when the memories of the insecurities I felt as a resident were still fresh. Scrubs is still my favorite medical show far and away. It captured what is was like to be a resident and the professional growth that happens as your experience and confidence increase better than any TV show or movie I’ve seen before or since. It was well written and well casted. It was a masterpiece that in my opinion never really got the credit it deserved.
@BigCowProductions Жыл бұрын
I agree. There is only one other show I can think of that either rivals, or surpasses, the character development in Scrubs. Monk. I hated it at first. Saw a couple episodes and it viscerally pissed me off about as much as seeing the infuriating face and act of 'mr. bean'. But when i gave it a shot from the start, it was utterly resplendent. Scrubs had more characters to juggle, but Monk did a superb job with who they had. One of the best shows on television. Period.

Actually I agree with the 9 seasons statement. Granted bill would have been much better off trying season nine as a spin off like Scrubs University or something like that. But I also understand how he could choose to do season 9 the way he did. Most spin offs fail drastically. From a strategic stance if it failed it would only be 1 bad season in a decade long show. Which for his career is better. But honestly I'm getting sick of the "true scrubs fans" complaining about season. Any true fan would sit back and let Bill do his thing which most of the time turns out spectacular but not this time. Oh no bill wanted to try something new and unique to sitcom world building, well let's all get our pitch forks. I mean that season was still good. You had Ken, Sam, John, Donald and Neil still killing it in their roles and fresh faces that were actually excited to try and carry the show for another 8 season. But no the response was a resounding "me no want new, me want season 1 but now. Me no like Bill no more." I often think that if the core fan base didn't shit all over that season scrubs could have gone on to rival iasip as we see it now. But yeah trash the 9th season cause for once someone in basic network television actually tried something different.

I was so mad and felt betrayed at the end of this episode. I was saying how could the show let all 3 patients die? What kind of shit is that? It took me a little while to realize that Scrubs doesn't seek to make the audience laugh the entire episode, like a comedy. I realized the creator was trying to make scrubs different in that, while it is a comedy, there's much more to the show. Life isn't fair. Scrubs isn't afraid to put that into a comedy. People die, whether we like it or not, and no matter how hard we fight it when it's your time, it's your time. I love Scrubs and I always will.

The better term for it would dramatic tragic comedy. While certain it has its dramatic and funny moments it also shows the tragedy that medical staff face.
@BigCowProductions Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It took something dead serious (pun intended) like Grey's Anatomy or House, but instead of just jumping down the drama chute, they situated the show as a comedy. But while situating it as a comedy, they wrote it like a drama. It is to TV shows and the genre 'Dramedy' as Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Metroid on SNES made the genre 'Metroidvania'.

I first binged Scrubs during my first semester of college and I find myself going back to it now that I'm in my final semester of nursing school. Going into medicine is insane, it's scary and painful and exhausting but, those lows make you appreciate the highs even more. I like that Scrubs was unflinching about our lows, because it only goes to show when you suddenly get a victory you didn't anticipate, it tastes just that much sweeter.

Yep you had to go and did do it didn't you! You actually described Scrubs the way it deserves to be described and you were so completely accurate you're drove me to tears. I feel same way Even the way you said it's definitely one of my top 5 and it might just even be my favorite show of all time. Yes I'll have to admit there are certain lines that they speak that I can recite word-for-word No I'm not embarrassed. You said many things that I've always thought. To me it's about the closest to real life you can get because there's the reality of things and then there's a comedy that we all try to bring into our own lives. Man I keep going for hours I'm so happy I found your channel. The 1st teaser that was aired where JD runs into the glass door. I couldn't wait to see it because it looked do funny but it was so much more. When my mom passed away it comforted me in a way I don't think anything or anybody else could have. I have always loved My Way Home especially the extended version. But every time somebody brings up their favorite episode it leads me to wonder is it possible to have a favorite scrubs episode?? But now different episodes popped into my head like MY Occurrence that aired in season one and led to My Screw Up that concludes it in a way in season 3 ( The storyline with Brandon Frazier) But of course you knew that. Then My Philosophy where Frequent flyer Elaine comes in for her last time. Then that brings to mind My Five Stages with Michael Learned from Walton's. The music too they just seem to find the perfect song for every emotion. I can go on forever so I won't but I got the biggest thrill when I was watching Cougar town and the episode entitled Operation Kiss the Girl ended with a mini Scrubs reunion a few being Cougar Town regulars. I would watch a channel where each Scrubs episode is discussed. 😁kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5K6o3WFr86cgtE

Love the show myself, but it is a shame that the quality of the show didn't maintain at the level of this episode or the others that were up their in quality. Character inconsistencies pop up and suspension of disbelief is shattered at moments. The main issue i find is that character's tend to repeatably have to learn a lesson that they learned 2 earlier on the show. For instance, Turk recedes back to treating patients with emotional distance, Elliot still tended to lack confidence with decision making and JD didn't grow enough of a spine as he should have across the series. I get that these issues wouldn't magically go away but ya' know. Hope that someone makes a "spiritual successor" to Scrubs but updated for the modern day. Anyways, great video of analysis.
@hyperform4 жыл бұрын
Well, as you said one can't simply go away from habits and magically become someone else overnight. Scrubs has many flaws but character development is one of the best on TV. Beside that we are going through a long journey with main characters during 8 years so from storytelling point it's consistent to watch them making the same mistakes again and again in different situations, their ups and downs, loses and wins, learning same hard lessons over and over until they and we as audience realize that they are not the same persons we meet in the beginning anymore. That makes audience emphasize them easier because it's the way the life is, man. We have to cross countless bridges which some of them are no problem. You get over them easily once but you have to try harder for some of others again and again before reaching the end. And that's why people are very connected to the characters of this show even after all these years.

We assume it’s about statistics, and quivering who’s patient will be the one to die, just to point out that it’s human lives we are talking about. Unlike the MCU who is HORRIBLE at subverting expectations, by making you think the villain will be Mandering, but the actual villain is just a fire breathing douchebag.
